Richfield Springs Man Pleads Guilty to Embezzling from Labor Union

A man from Richfield Springs facing federal embezzlement charges takes a plea deal. Prosecutors say Jay Garnsey pleaded guilty to embezzling assets from a labor union while serving as financial secretary. An investigation determined Garnsey received $38,000 in fradukent reimbursements. He is to be sentenced next January.

Man Charged In Otselic Stabbing

A man from Norwich is charged with stabbing 2 people at a town of Otselic home. Police say the man was involved in a domestic dispute and the victims were an adult and a child under the age of 17. The man is jailed on $250,000 cash bail or $500,000 bond.

Charges Filed In Hartwick Arson

Felony burglary and arson charges are filed in a town of Hartwick house fire. State Police say the man who is from Otego broke into the Bunn Hill Road home on Monday and intentionally started a fire. He was found near a County Road 205 restaurant. Bail is set at $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond.

Bassett Healthcare Network’s Northeast Center for Occupational Health and Safety: Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing received a renewal of its federal funding, The 5-year grant from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health allows the organization to continue its mission by researching solutions for preventing and treating occupational injury and illness.

NY Banning Gas Powered Vehicles By 2035

Governor Kathy Hochul announces New York state plans to adopt regulations requiring all new vehicles to be either electric or plug-in electric hybrids by 2035. California adopted a similar plan earlier this year. The Department of Environmental Conservation is drafting the regulations and there will be a public hearing before they’re approved.

4 People Critically Injured In Sidney Crash

4 people are critically injured in a crash Tuesday on Covered Bridge Road in the Town of Sidney. Police say one of the vehicles was hit so hard it sheered into two separate pieces. One of the occupants was later airlifted to Upstate Medical Center.

New York’s annual Youth Big Game Hunt occurs on Oct. 8-10. Licensed 12- to 15-year-olds may use a firearm to hunt big game while accompanied by an experienced, licensed adult hunter. All eligible junior hunters may take one deer of either sex and 14- and 15-year-olds may also take one bear.

2 Injured In Otselic Stabbing

State Police are investigating a Wednesday morning stabbing in the town of Otselic. According to investigators 2 people were injured in what was described as a domestic dispute. Both people were hospitalized and are in stable condition. One person is facing charges.
