Schoharie Central School District Adds SRO

The Schoharie Central School District is adding a school resource officer. According to the Cobleskill Times-Journal the district is working out details with the Schoharie County Sheriff’s Office to hire Deputy Terry Minton, a certified SRO with 24 years of experience who’s already familiar with the district.

100 Immigrants Become Citizens At NYS Fair

100 immigrants from 39 different countries took an oath of U.S. citizenship at the New York State Fair on Friday. Secretary of State Robert Rodriguez handed out certificates at the Special Naturalization Ceremony. He says it is exciting and rewarding helping those who left their countries to come to the Sstates.

NYSDOL To Issue New Report on Women in the Workplace

The State Department of Labor will provide a report on the impact of the pandemic on women in the workplace with a particular focus on the gender wage gap. It builds on the findings of the 2018 Gender Wage Gap study. DOL will also hold a series of public hearings for the report.

2 Drug Overdoses In Norwich

Norwich Police reported 2 drug overdose deaths in the past week. The Evening Sun reports both victims are men and are between the ages of 20 and 45. The two men were not related. Investigators say it appeared each man was using drugs laced with fentanyl.

Otsego County DOH Says Get Polio Vaccine

The Otsego County Department of Health is recommending that everyone who is not fully vaccinated for polio to complete the vaccination series as soon as possible. In Otsego County, just over 80.% of 2 year olds are vaccinted. Delaware County’s rate is over 89% and Schoharie County is a little under under 89%.

West St Project Is Complete

Oneonta’s West St. Reconstruction Project is complete. Officials say the road reopened Friday afternoon and Oneonta Public Transit resumed service. The $1.9 million project started in March and included replacing water mains, underground pumping, sewer lines, sidewalks and curbs. Handicapped accessible ramps are also installed.

Teen Identified In Town of Maryland Crash

State Police identify the teenage girl killed in a Town of Maryland car accident last Sunday as Mackenzie R. Straight of Maryland. Troopers say she was traveling south on County Highway 42 when her car left the roadway and struck a tree. Mackenzie died at the scene.

NY Releases Concealed Carry Minimum Requirements

The State Division of Criminal Justice Services and State Police released new training requirements to obtain a concealed carry permit. Among the requirements are at least 16 hours of live, in-person training from a licensed instructor including two hours of live-fire training. The new rules take effect on September 1.
