Helios Care Receives Donation

The Hudson Highlands Retread Motorcycle group makes a $1,200 donation to Helios Care, According to All Otsego the donation came from thr club’s fundraising efforts. Helios Care will use the money to continue providing bereavement services free to all residents throughout Schoharie, Otsego, and Delaware Counties.

DiNapoli Dings Milford CSD

An audit from State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli’s office finds the Milford Central School District has too much money saved in its fund balance. The audit covering July 1, 2018 through June 30 determined the balance exceeded the 4% statutory limit by about $600,000.

No Income Tax On Loan Forgiveness Amounts

If you are among those who will receive student loan forgiveness under the plan announced last week by President Joe Biden you won’t have to pay state income tax. The state Department of Taxation and Finance said the forgiven amounts aren’t being considered as income.

Applications Open For EV Grants

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is accepting applications from municipalities for grants to purchase electric vehicles. They must be either purchased or leased for a 36-month minimum. Application deadline is Sept. 30. 40 percent of all funds will be earmarked for disadvantaged communities.

Officials with the New York State Smokers’ Quitline are offering resources to help teenagers and their parents to become nicotine-free. With less restrictive COVID-19 protocols at schools teenagers will soon encounter more opportunities for socialization which means more exposure to vape products which often have high concentrations of nicotine.

Milestone in Food Donation Helps Families

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and Feeding New York State announced that a total of one million pounds of food was donated during the first 7 months of the state’s Food Donation and Food Scraps Recycling Law. The law’s implementation resulted in less disposal at the state’s largest food-related businesses.

SUNY Oneonta Holds New York State History and Education Conference

Next month SUNY Oneonta and the Cooperstown Graduate Program holds the first-even New York State History and Education Conference. The theme is “History Fights Back” and according to officials it will enable allow historians and educators of all backgrounds to make their voices heard and stand up for well-researched and inclusive historical narratives.

CCSO Holds Child Safety Car Seat Check Event

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting a Child Safety Car Seat Event on September 24 at Visions Federal Credit Union from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Technicians will check for correct car seat installation, proper car seat fit for your child and expired/damaged car seats.

Food Shelf at Hunt College Union Needs Donations

SUNY Oneonta’s Food Shelf at Hunt College Union is in need of non-perishable food donations. Research finds that 19% of SUNY Oneonta students had low, or very low food security. Donations can be dropped off at the collection bin at the HUB or at the Netzer Administration Building.
