Hydrant Replacement Update – Center St

The City of Oneonta will continue working on replacing the hydrant on Center St today. The road will be closed from Taft Ave to Draper St. When water is restored, residents may experience a change in water color or pressure. Discoloration should disappear after running a cold-water tap for a few minutes.

Family Farm Day Is Saturday

The 10th annual Family Farm Day is this Saturday. It includes open house events at farms from Schoharie, Otsego, and Delaware Counties. Activities include demonstrations and educational activities, tours, rides plus tastings of local foods and beverages along with shopping for as dairy products, meats, botanicals and baked goods.

Delaware County Farm Enhancement Grants Program Applications Open

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Delaware County invites applications from eligible farm businesses for financial assistance to implement projects that will improve viability of farm operations through strategic investment in farm infrastructure OR through a limited payment of 2022 crop input expenses. Applications for are due by 4:00 pm on Friday, September 2.

Special Election & Primary Results

Democrat Pat Ryan will be completing Antonio Delgado’s 19th district congressional term according to unofficial returns from Tuesday’s special election. Josh Riley is leading in the 19th Dtstrict Democratic primary and Matt Castelli leads in the 21st District. Peter Oberacker is leading in the 51st State Senate District Republican primary.

Norwich Seeks Input On Comprehensive Plan

City of Norwich officials are seeking input for its comprehensive plan and asks residents to complete a survey on various aspects of living there. According to the Evening Star the survey at NorwichNewYork.net includes questions about the most and least appealing things about living in the city and also about an individual neighborhood.

SUNY Oneonta PRISM Conference Committee Membership Call

The planning committee for the SUNY Oneonta PRISM Conference is seeking additional members. The conference highlights and celebrates LGBTQIA+ experiences and provides support and resources to attendees. Meetings for the fall will begin once classes start and the conference is the weekend of October 22.

25k Tickets Issued During ‘Speed Week’ Campaign

State Police wrote more than 25,000 traffic tickets during the special “Speed Week” traffic enforcement campaign last week. Troopers responded to over 200 personal injury crashes including five fatal crashes. Close to 1,500 speeding tickets were issued in Troop C which covers Otsego, Chenango and Delaware counties.

Actor George Takei will deliver the SUNY Oneonta’s 2022 Mills Distinguished Lecture on Monday, Oct. 24, at 7:00 p.m. Takei’s book “They Called Us Enemy” is this year’s Common Read. Faculty using the Common Read in class are encouraged to have students RSVP on Campus Connection for sessions with Takei.
