Tornado Touches Down In Walton

The National Weather Service reports a tornado moved through the Walton area Sunday evening. Damage was noted along Walton Mountain Road, at a Route 10 auto shop and the west branch of the Delaware River along South River Road. The NWS measured the tornado’s winds at EF0 to EF1.

Charges Filed In Stamford Hit And Run Crash

Charges are filed in a Stamford hit-and-run collision that happened last week. A Delaware County Sheriff’s Office investigation determined the driver also had a suspended license. The man who is from Stamford was booked then released pending a future court appearance.

POIs Sought In Walmart Theft

State Police want to talk with a man and a woman about a wallet and cell phone theft at Walmart in Oneonta. Investigators say the items were taken Saturday from a restroom and were found at the Hartwick Grand Union. Photos of the two people are on the State Police Facebook page.

SUNY Oneonta Presents Webb Telescope Images

Images from the James Webb Space Telescope are bring presented this Friday by the SUNY Oneonta Physics and Astronomy Department at the planetarium. The event will be hosted by SUNY Oneonta class of 2017 graduate Mike Engesser who worked on the project. It begins at 6:00 p.m.

DCSO Holding Coffee with the Sheriff’s Office

Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond and members of his team will host “Coffee with the Sheriff’s Office” events at several locations next month. Man Charged In Norwich Assault

Bail is set at $25,000 for a man charged in what Norwich Police describe as a violent assault that happened last week. Investigators tell the Evening Sun the man badly beat the victim resulting in multiple broken bones, a fractured spine and a collapsed lung. The victim and the man knew each other.

State Conducting Crackdown on Unemployment Insurance Fraud

A State Department of Labor investigation found that unemployment insurance fraud accounted for more than $11 million in benefits payments in August. These were paid almost exclusively to those working while also collecting unemployment during the pandemic. The state is seeking repayment for fraudulent benefitsand refer nonpayment to state law enforcement.

DCPH Conducting Monkeypox Clinic

Delaware County Public Health Services will be conducting a Monkeypox vaccine clinic on October 5 from 4:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at 99 Main St. in Delhi. The two vaccine doses are given 28 days apart. This is a 1st dose clinic only and registration is at delawarecountypublichealth.com.

NY Further Expands CDL Testing Sites

The state now allowws school bus, tour bus and trucking companies to administer commercial driver license road tests. This expands previous efforts to address the shortage of commercial drivers by increasing the number of testing sites and reducing the wait time, thus removing barriers and recruiting more drivers.
