Governor Kathy Hochul extends the mask-or-vaccine mandate until Feb,.10. It was to expire tomorrow. Masking in schools continues until further notice. This comes as an appellate court is deciding on overturning a judge’s ruling that the mandate is unconstitutional. NY Makes $70 Million Available To Address Child Care Deserts

New York makes $70 million in grants available to newly licensed, registered or permitted child care programs in areas with insufficient care availability. The grants cover start-up and personnel costs and retain staff and support workers. Applications open in mid-April and grant awards will start in June. High School Student Faces Felony Weapons Charge

A felony weapons charge is brought in the investigation into a video posted by a Chenango County high school student which showed a rifle fired at a tree. State Police investigators determined the weapon was not SAFE Act compliant. The student was arraigned as an adolescent offender. Richmondville Homicide Under Investigation

State Police are investigating a Richmondvville homicide that happened Saturday morning. Troopers responded to a disturbance call at a Hite Road address and found an adult man dead in the home. SUNY Oneonta Student Death Under Investigation

Oneonta Police report the death of a 20-year-old SUNY Oneonta student. The man was found last Thursday unconscious near the Silas Lane Bus Garage and he was taken to A.O. Fox Hospital.
