Telecom Providers Sue NYS Over Low-Income Broadband Internet Law

New York’s recently-passed law requiring telecom providiers to offer low-cost, high-speed internet to lower-income families is getting a legal challenge. A lawsuit filed against the state by an industry trade group says lawmakers can’t force companies to provide low-cost service and even if they could, providing it would impact future network upgrades. Gov. Andrew Cuomo characterized the suit as “nothing more than a transparent attempt by billion-dollar corporations putting profit ahead of creating a more fair and just society”.
