Even as healthcare workers are administering the vaccine, the need for care of COVID 19 positive patients continues, and last week, a new outpatient treatment has become available at Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich. Monoclonal antibody therapy involves infusion of a drug called Bamlanivimab, that may keep those at highest risk of complications from the virus from ever ending up in a hospital bed.. So far, only newly diagnosed COVID positive patients with qualifying conditions such as chronic kidney disease, immunosuppressive diseases, cardiovascular disease, COPD and asthma are possible candidates for the treatment.
