Hartwick College will celebrate Earth Day on April 22, with stargazing and the world premiere of the film, The Search for Up, by Duo Extempore. The film by the piano and bass duo was shot in Hartwick’s Ernest B. Wright Observatory last November.
The City of Oneonta is conducting a drinking water survey. Officials say it will improve their understanding of the water distribution system and the quality of drinking water the City provides. A survey link is on the City’s Facebook page.

A man pleading guilty to child sex abuse charges in Delaware County is sentenced to 8 to 10 years in jail. Prosecutors say John Olson of Monroe will be on 10 years of post-release supervision and will have to register as a sex offender.
A man charged with reporting a false bomb threat in Downsville takes a plea deal. Prosecutors say Kristopher Surdis of Kingston pleaded guilty to a felony charge for the threat to the Downsville Country Store. He was sentenced to time served and is required to seek mental health treatment.
19th District Comgressman Marc Molinaro announced that Greater Opportunities for Broome and Chenango, Inc received over $2.8 million for its Head Start Program. The funds are from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and over $10 million was awarded in Molinaro’s district.
It’s back to jail for a Delhi man after he violated his probation. Prosecutors say Michael Varian was given probation from a April 2022 petit larceny conviction but violated it a few months later. He’s now in jail for a year.
A man charged in Delaware County with violating an order of protection takes a plea deal. Prosecutors say Douglas Rodriguez of Roscoe pleaded guilty to first degree Criminal Contempt and admitted to calling the protected individual several times for no legitimate reason. Rodriguez will be sentenced next month.
An Oneonta man is charged in a police pursuit while driving a reported stolen vehicle. Officers saw the man speeding on State Highway 205 in the town of Laurens and that’s where the chase began. It ended after the man crashed and he was hospitalized.
The 2023 Norwich St. Baldrick’s “Brave the Shave” fundraising event held last Saturday at the Norwich American Legion Post 189 raised over $49,000 to support childhood cancer research. This was the first in-person event since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
