Unemployment Up In Otsego County

The State Departmwent of Labor says Otsego County unemployment in May was up by a tenth of a percentage point, to 2.9%. 100 more people filed for unemployment while 600 were added to the county’s work force. Chenango County’s May unemployment was 2.7% and in Delaware County it was 3.1%

DEC Seeking Feedback from the Solar Industry

The state Department of Environmenta Conservation is considering regulatory changes for the management of end-of-life solar panels and is conducting a survey to gather more information about the current management practices being used by industry stakeholders. The survey will close on Wednesday, July 12.

: CCHS receives funding from Stewart’s Holiday Match Program

The Chenango County Historical Society receives a donation from the Stewart’s Holiday Match program totaling $1,000. Funds go directly to support activities designed to share local history with children and families. Since 1986, the Stewart’s Holiday Match has awarded more than $36 million to non-profit organizations.

Unatego Kids Get Bike Safety Info

The Otsego County Deputy Sheriff’s PBA partnered with the Otsego County Child Advocacy Center and the Otsego-Schoharie Child Fatality Review team to provide bicycle safety information to pre-kindergarten students in the Unatego Central School District. Students were given donated bicycle helmets at the event.

Bassett & Hartwick Partner For Simulation Labs

Bassett Healthcare Network and Hartwick College announced the launch of joint simulation labs for first-year Bassett residents and nursing students. This is the first time Bassett residents are partnering with Hartwick nursing students in simulation labs. 23 first-year Bassett physicians are participating.

Free Cancer Screening Today

The Mobile Cancer Screening Coach will be at Southside Mall today from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. to provide no cost mammograms and Pap tests to women 40 and over who don’t have insurance. Those with insurance are also urged to participate.

Norwich Performing Business Walkthroughs

City of Norwich personnel are performing downtown building walkthroughs. According to the Evening Sun staffers go into businesses and survey the buildings for code violations and loitering. It’s the result of numerous complaints received by police with most about north end businesses.
