State Police ID HF Thieves

State Police announced they’ve identified a pair of men who stole a GHOST Kart Racing Engine from Harbor Freight in Oneonta. Investigators say the men walked around the store before grabbing the item and leaving through an emergency exit door. The ID was made through tips from the public.

Audit Dings Oxford Academy Transportation Expenses

An audit by State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli’s office finds the Oxford Academy and Central School did not ensure transportation expenses were in the best interest of taxpayers. Between July 2021 and September 2022 the district issued contracts without competitive bidding and didn’t monitor fuel credit card urchases or review vehicle repair invoices.

Cooperstown Man Charged In Child Sex Sting

A man from Cooperstown is charged in Delaware County with endangering the welfare of a child and of attempted disseminating indecent material to minors. Prosecutors say the man had a sexually explicit conversation with someone he thought was 14 but was in reality an adult. The man was jailed on $5,000 cash bail.

Man Arraigned In Davenport Fatal Crash

A grand jury indicts a man in a 2022 Davenport crash that killed a passenger. Prosecutors say the man from Sidney was arraigned on 2 felony charges. He was released on his own recognizance pending his next court appearance.

Mt Upton Man Takes Drug Possession Plea Deal

A man from Mount Upton pleaded guilty to possessing heroin with intent to sell. Prosecutors say Nicholas Marte was passed out in his vehicle at a Hancock store and that’s when police found the drugs packed for sale. Marte got 5 years probationand has to complete a drug treatment program.

DEC Announces First-Time Camper Weekend Program

The State Department of Environmental Conservation announced the return of the First-Time Camper Program for the 2023 season. It allows you to try camping in the great outdoors before purchasing their own gear by registering for a fully stocked campsite for a designated weekend this summer.

ROAD WORK

A contractor working for the City of Oneonta will be striping Main St and Chestnut St tomorrow, Thursday, June 15th. Work will occur from Thursday, 6/15 at 11:00 pm to Friday, 6/16 6:00 am. During this time, some side streets connecting to Main St may be closed to allow the paint to dry.

WATER MAIN WORK

According the Evening Sun, construction work in downtown Norwich officially began yesterday as Department of Public Works (DPW) crews broke ground on the water main replacement project.
