New York suspends road and bridge construction from6:00 a.m. tomorrow though 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday to ease travel throughout the Independence Day holiday weekend. Drivers are reminded to follow the state’s Move Over Law, which requires slowing down and safely moving over for law enforcement vehicles, first responders, tow trucks and maintenance vehicles.
Bail is set at $5,000 for a town of Norwich resident facing charges from the the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office. The suspect is charged with Strangulation, Criminal Contempt, Unlawful Imprisonment, Criminal Mischief and Harassment. It’s not clear what led to the charges being brought.
The Otsego County Deputy Sheriff’s PBA announces its 2023 scholarship winners. They are Kaden Butts from Unadilla Valley Central School, Peter Kiuber from Cooperstown Central School and Lydia Lusk from Cherry Valley-Springfield Central School. The PBA exctends its congratulations to the classa of 2023.
Police agencies across the state are participating in the Stop-DWI “High Visibility Campaign” over the Independence Day holiday weekend. Officers will be looking for intoxicated driver along qith those driving aggressively and violating the state’s ban on handheld cell phone use while behind the wheel.
The Village of Cooperstown Board of Trustees unanimously a;proves a zoning law change regarding short-term rentals such as AirBNB. According to All Otsego the change standardized the definition of what is a short-term rental. The change was approved on Monday following a public hearing.
An Air Quality Alert remains in effect until midnight due to smoke from wildfires in Canada. The air quality is at unhealthy levels and those with cardiovascular or respiratory problems should stay indoors. Officials say everyone should limit physical activities until the air quality improves.
An unveiling ceremony is held in Cooperstown on Thursday for the state’s new Mohawk Valley state license plate. It’s one of the plates representing the State’s 10 regions. An image of the Hyde Hall Covered Bridge at Glimmerglass State Park is on the plate.

State Police announced the maximum age to apply to become a New York State Trooper is raised from 29 to 34. Candidates can learn about becoming a New York State Trooper and sign up to take the exam at joinstatepolice.ny.gov.
