DEC Joins BearWise

The state Department of Environmental Conservation joins the BearWise campaign as a cooperative member state. BearWise was developed to ensure people learn to live responsibly with bears. Residents are encouraged to take simple steps at home or when recreating outdoors to avoid negative interactions with black bears.

Fire Destroys Oxford Barn

A fire destroyed a barn in Oxford last Friday. The Oxford Fire Department was assisted by other area fire companies and a silo was destroyed but another was saved. No injuries were reported and the fire’s cause is under investigation.

DelCo Undersheriff Attends Statewide Conference

Delaware County Undersheriff Kim Smith was one of forty-five Undersheriffs attending the New York State Sheriffs’ Association training conference, held in Saratoga Springs. Training in recent law enforcement updates and advances was offered along with a forum to discuss current law enforcement issues and share best practices.

Wilber Park Pool Opening Delayed TFN

An update now on the opening of the Wilber Park swimming pool. The City of Oneonta Recreation Office announced the opening is on hold until further notice due to equipment issues. . It was to open today The department will issue updates on a new opening date once the issues are resolved.

Smith Wins DelCo DA Primary

Acting Delaware County District Attorney Shawn Smith will be on the November ballot after defeating attorney Joe Ermeti in Tuesday’s Republican primary election. Other Delaware County results and some in Otsego County’s were too close to call as of Tuesday evening.

Hartwick College Names Gross As VP Enrollment Management

Hartwick College names Bryan Gross as vice president for enrollment management. According to a news release he will lead innovative strategies to enhance the quality and diversity of the College’s enrollment management and financial aid optimization plans. One of his primary responsibilities will be to develop partnerships locally, nationally and internationally.

Woman Charged In Colchester Domestic Disturbance

A woman is facing charges from a domestic disturbance in the town of Colchester. Police say an investigation determined the woman made unwanted physical contact with another person. She is free on her own recognizance pending a date in town of Colchester Court.

OPT Makes SUNY Oneonta Bus Stop Change

Oneonta Public Transit is making a temporary route and stop change effective today on SUNY Oneonta’s campus. The stop normally located at Bacon Hall will be temporarily moved to West Dorm Dr at the South Dorm Dr intersection.
