‘Stop The Mandate’ Protest In Norwich

A demonstration against New York’s health care worker COVID-19 vaccine requirement takes place today at noon in front of Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich. SUNY Oneonta Distinguished Service Professor Gretchen Sorin and he college’s Cooperstown Graduate Program were recently recognized with an American Bar Association Silver Gavel Award for producing the documentary “Driving While Black: Race, Space and Mobility in America” alongside renowned filmmaker Ric Burns. Hussein Takes Plea Deal On Schoharie Limo Crash Charges

The owner of the limo company whose vehicle crashed in 2018 killing 20 people takes a plea deal on 20 counts each of manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide. According to WRGB Nauman Hussein received 5 years’ probation and 1000 hours community service. Investigators determined the limo should not have been in service. NY Extends Eviction Moratorium Until Jan 15

New York’s moratorium on COVID-19-related residential and commercial evictions is now extended through January 15. Lawmakers also enacted a moratorium on foreclosure proceedings so owners of 10 or fewer residential dwellings can file hardship declarations with their mortgage lender. DOH Finalizes COVID-19 Guidance For Schools

The state Department of Health released updated COVID-19 for schools on Thursday. It requires weekly testing for teachers and staff in areas the CDC lists as having low, moderate, substantial, or high transmission rates. Proof of vaccination lifts the testing requirement. The guidance alsdo finalizes the mask-wearing requirement indoors regardless of vaccination status. Otego’s Only Bank Is Now Closed

The Village of Otego loses its only bank. All Otsego reports Community Bank shuttered its branch there citing trends in retail branch transactions and shifting customer behaviors. A contractor working for the City of Oneonta will begin paving several streets starting today with work wrapping up on Tuesday, weather permitting. Milford & Richfield Springs Fire Departments Receive Federal Grants

Fire departments in Milford and Richfield Springs will share in over $11 million in federal funding to provide protective gear, training, and supplies to emergency personnel.
