Chenango County Reports 4 More COVID-19 Related Deaths

Chenango County has 4 more COVID-19 related deaths. It’s not known if those individuals had been vaccinated. This brings the total number of deaths to 81. Public Health officials say the deaths occurred between Oct. 2 and Nov. 3 but it wasn’t until now that the cause of death was confirmed.

Bassett Now Offering COVID-19 Vaccine For 5- to 11-Year-Olds

Bassett Healthcare is now providing COVID-19 vaccines to those 5 to 11 years old. The vaccines which are a lower dose than the adult shots will be available at pediatric and school based health clinics in the region. Extra Patrols Out For Thanksgiving Weekend

Law Enforcement agencies across New York will participate in the STOP-DWI “High Visibility Engagement Campaign” taking place from today through Sunday. Expect to see extra patrols on the roads along with addition DWI checkpoints. Police will also look for distracted drivers, speeders and those not following the Move Over law. NY Awards $81M In Economic Development Council Grants

New York awards over $81 million to support priority projects through Round 9 of the Regional Economic Development Council initiative. Area recipients include Pathfinder Village. Delaware County Industrial Development Agency and SUNY Cobleskill’s Agribusiness Research and Workforce Innovation Hub. This year $150 million has been awarded on a continuous and competitive basis. NY Awarding Grants To Expand Access To Telehealth

New York is investing $3 million in new technologies that will improve access and adoption of telehealth in underserved communities. $150,000 will be awarded to each of ten regions and the state funding will be matched by private philanthropic support. Delaware County Gets Water Quality Grants

The Delaware County Soil and Water Conservation District receives 2 state grants to aid a pair of farms in addressing water quality issues. The awards total close to $800,000 and the 2 farms are in the Upper Susquehanna River Watershed. Nearly $14 million was awarded to 91 projects statewide. Norwich Man Arrested For Child Sex Trafficking

A Norwich man faces child sex trafficking charges after a multi-state imvestigation. According to the Evening Sun the investigation conducted by Norwich Police and the Department of Homeland Security along with other agencies determined the incident happened in the state of Mane last April. BHOF 2022 Ballot Announced

The Baseball Hall of Fame unveils the 2022 ballot and some of the first-time nominees include David Ortiz, Ryan Howard, Tim Lincecum and Alex Rodriguez. It will be the 10th and final appearance for Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens and Curt Schilling. NY Distributing 3,200 Turkeys

Governor Kathy Hochul announced 3,200 turkeys will be distributed thanks to $100,000 in donations from several corporations and a partnership with Feeding New York State. In Otsego and Delaware Counties the distribution will be through the Regional Food Bank while in Chenango County the Food Band of Central New York is handling distribution. Smyrna Barn Destroyed By Fire

A fire last Friday destroys a Smyrna barn. According to the Evening Sun firefighters from Smyrna were aided by crews from Sherburne, Earlville, Plymouth, North Norwich, and Georgetown. It took about 7 hours to get the fire and hotspots put out. No animals were lost. The fire’s cause is under investigation.
