Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the state now has more than one gigawatt of community solar power facilities in operation which is enough to power 200,000 homes. The Arc Otsego’s ReUse Center in Oneonta receives Gold Level Certification as a Waste-Smart Business by the Otsego County Planning and Solid Waste Department. Center officials say that over 3 million pounds of usable material and 22,000 pounds of polystyrene have been recycled since opening in 2017.
The Susquehanna SPCA raises over $11,000 for animal shelters in Ukraine which doubles their original goal. SUNY Oneonta is expanding its partnership with Mohawk Valley Community College to provide childhood education students a path for earning a master’s degree. A man from West Edmeston is killed in a Madison County crash. Police say the man was heading north on Beaver Creek Road when his SUV left the highway and hit several trees coming to rest overturned and partially in a creek. He died at the scene. Cooperstown Central Schools is looking for a new Junior-Senior High School Principal as All Otsego reports Karl O’Leary was let go last Friday. No details on O’Leary’s departure were made public by the district. The district hired him last July. He had 17 years education experience. The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office adds a new K-9 officer to its team. K-9 Tracer is assigned to Handler Deputy Sheriff Jessica Thornhill and the pair were certified as an Explosive Detection Canine Team in June of 2020.
