The Otsego County Health Department reported 2 additional COVID-19 deaths on Monday. It’s not known if either individual was vaccinated. There are 21 deaths so far this year and 113 since the pandemic began. 4 people are currently hospitalized. The 7-day positive case rate is 7.3%. State lawmakers wrapped up the 2022 session last week by passing bills on voting rights and raising the age to buy assault rifles. A special election will be held on Tuesday, August 23 to elect a new 19th District congressional representative. Antonio Delgato resigned the seat to become lieutenant governor. Delgado was planning a re-election bid before being appointed to replace Brian Benjamin who was charged with campaign finance fraud. State Police conducted an underage drinking detail in Schoharie County and of the 21 businesses checked 1 in Esperance was in violation. During the detail retail establishments are checked using a trooper in plain clothes and one or several underaged operatives who cannot lie about their age. A water main break happened Friday in the area of West and Clinton Sts. This is the area where the West St. reconstruction project is taking place. The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office is reporting several occasions where drivers fail to stop for stopped school buses. Sheriff’s Deputies followed buses on Friday during their regular pick up to help stop this. Violators could face fines up to $400 or imprisonment of up to 30 days for the first violation.
