Oneonta Police caution people to be thoughtful in the images that they share on social media and with who. This comes after a report that a photo of a 13-year-old boy with a gun was posted. An investigation determined it was from an estranged family member and the teen was never in danger.

Schoharie County Woman Charged With Custodial Interference

A Schoharie County woman faces a custodial interference charge after a State Police investigation determined she would not allow 2 children under the age of 16 to go back with their legal guardian. The woman was arraigned on the charge then released with an order to stay away from the children.

CFOC Announces Student Competition

The Community Foundation of Otsego County announces its first-ever Student Voices, Student Choices Awards competition. Teams from Cherry Valley-Springfield, Edmeston, Gilbertsville-Mount Upton, and Richfield Springs high schools will identify the greatest needs in their communities then make a presentation which could win them up to $5,000.

NY Declares Monkeypox SOE

Governor Kathy Hochul declared a State Disaster Emergency in response to the ongoing monkeypox outbreak. One provision extends the pool of eligible individuals who can administer monkeypox vaccines. Earlier Commissioner of Health Dr. Mary T. Bassett declared monkeypox an Imminent Threat to Public Health. The closest case is reported in Broome County.

Pot Smoking Again Permitted At NYS Fair

Officials with the Great New York State Fair confirm smoking marijuana will be allowed but only at six designated outdoor smoking areas. New York’s cannabis law permits smoking marijuana wherever tobacco smoking is permitted. Last year was the first time pot smoking was allowed at the Fair.

Manchester Named Cobleskill PD Chief

Cobleskill has a new Police Chiel. According to the Times-Journal Justin Manchester becomes the now top cop on Saturday. He succeeds retiring chief Jeff Brown. Manchester joined the department 2 decades ago and started as a patrolman working his way up to the department’s lieutenant-investigator.

Chenango County DA Office Seeking State Grant

The Chenango County District Attorney’s Office is seeking a state grant so it can add 2 employees to help handle increased demands on the department. According to the Evening Sun the department wants to hire an assistant district attorney and a full-time secretary which would replace a retiring part-time clerk.

Fowler Pavilion Unveiled At Doubleday Field

The Cooperstown Village Board votes to name the new third base building at Doubleday Field as the “Fowler Pavilion”. According to All Otsego it honors 2022 HoF Inductee Bud Fowler who played on integrated leagues long before before Jackie Robinson officially broke the Major League Baseball color barrier.

Glimmerglass State Park Closed For Swimming

There’s no swimming allowed at Glimmerglass State Park due to a harmful algae bloom affecting the north end of Otsego Lake. Cooperstown Village Clerk Jenna Utter tells All Otsego village parks remain open at this time and they are closely monitoring the situation. The blooms can also cause harm to animals.
