SUNY Oneonta Conducting School Supply Drive

SUNY Oneonta’s Office of Equity & Inclusion is conducting a School Supply Drive through August 15 to benefit the Family Service Association which helped 400 children in Otsego, Delaware, Chenango, and Schoharie counties last year. Donation boxes are located in Hunt Union and 3 other locations. You’re asked to donate only new items.

Exploration Days at Hanford Mills Is Aug. 13

The 2022 Exploration Days at Hanford Mills takes place August 13. According to All Otsego cooper Bob Allers will return to demonstrate historic coopering skills, tools and techniques. The Dave Brandt Chapter 210 of Trout Unlimited will be pondside for a children’s catch-and-release fishing day.

Oneonta Warming Station Needs New Home

The operators of the Oneonta Warming Station are looking for a new location as the roof collapsed at the Chestnut Street facility. According to a Facebook post the station housed up to 7 people per night from last November through April. Contact Catholic Charities if you have any suggestions for a new location.

DMV Hiring 500 Workers

The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles has the help wanted sign out for hundreds of openings. The first step is taking the civil service exam, which will be offered online for the first time. You can take the test anytime until midnight on Aug. 31.Visit dmv.ny.gov for details.

Fatal Crash In Sidney

A one-car crash in Sidney takes the like of a driver and a dog. Police say it happened Sunday on Parker Hollow Road and an investigation determined the driver who is from Bainbridge was going northbound when their car left the road, hit a tree and caught fire. Both died at the scene.

CDC Says NY Has Highest Monkeypox Case Count

The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention reports New York has the majority of confirmed monkeypox cases in the United States. The next highest case count is in California. Montana, Vermont and Wyoming don’t have a recorded case as of Monday.

State Audits Unadilla Valley Central School District NRT Rates

State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli’s office audited the Unadilla Valley Central School District and determined officials did not establish nonresident tuition rates for special education students in accordance with regulations.The audit found the rates exceeded the state maximum resulting in 7 districts overcharged by a total of $183,250.
