Norwich Trespassing Call Turns Into Auto Theft Arrest

A trespasssing reporrt at a town of Norwich home turns into a auto theft investigation with 3 people now charged. Police say they found the car the 3 were in was reported stolen from a New Hartford home. Each is now charged with burglary, criminal possession of stolen property and conspiracy.

Injured Eagle Found In Cooperstown

An injured eagle was found Saturday at Brookwood Point in the Cooperstown area. Otsego County Sheriff’s deputies captured the eagle which appeared sick and disoriented. It is now at the Cornell University Animal Hospital for treatment. It’s not clear how long that will take.

Hang Glider Crashes In Middlefield

A powered hang glider crashed Saturday after taking off from Westville Airport in the Town of Middlefield. According to the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office the operator was the only occupant and refused medical treatment. The Milford Fire Department and Emergency Squad also responded. The crash is under investigation.

State Unveils New Fishing App

The State has a new ‘Tackle Box’ mobile phone app to enhance fishing-related tourism for new and experienced anglers. It provides a one-stop location for nearly all State fishing regulations along with other information including waterbodies, stocking information plus photos to help identify fish likely found in a certain river, lake, or stream.

Norwich Adds Code Ordinance Inspector

The City of Norwich increases its efforts to enforce building code violations by adding an ordinance inspector. Mayor Brian Doliver tells the Evening Sun the new officer will be focusing on the four major issues seen in the city: high grass, shoveling sidewalks in the winter, cleaning up garbage, and removing unregistered vehicles.

DEC Offering Online and In-Person Hunter Training

The Department of Environmental Conservation is now offering online and in-person training for all first-time hunters, bowhunters, and trappers. State regulations require passing one or more courses before they can purchase a license. All in-person courses are free of charge but courses fill quickly, so participants are encouraged to sign up early.

Grants Awarded For Emergency Services Upgrades

Counties across the state are awarded funding to upgrade their emergency radio systems from grants funded by cellphone surcharges. Chenango County is receiving $1.19 million while Delaware County was awarded $1.36 million and Otsego County’s grant is $1.63 million. A total of $100 million was awarded statewide from 2 grant programs.

Student Creates Colorscape Chenango Billboard

A tenth grader at Unadilla Valley High School has her artwork turned into a billboard to promote the Colorscape Chenango Arts Festival. According to the Evening Sun Madison Parker won the “Keep it Kind” art contest and you can see her winning entry along Route 12 just north of the City of Norwich.

Driver License Gender Changes Can Be Done Online

Those wanting to choose “X” as a gender marker for a driver license, learner permit, or non-driver ID can now make the change online eliminating the need to visit a Department of Motor Vehicles office. Go to dmv.ny.gov to make the change.

Oneonta Man Charged In Walmart Larceny

A theft investigation at the Oneonta Walmart results in a man being charged. Police say it happened on July 29 and the Town of Oneonta man was arraigned then released on his own recognizance. He is set to appear in Town of Oneonta Court at a later date.
