S-E School District Updating Code Of Conduct

Sherburne-Earlville School District officials are completing work on a months-long project to update the student code of conduct. According to the Evening Sun officials are aiming to have a final draft approved by the board prior to the start of the 2022-2023 school year.

Place Named Middleburgh Central Schools Superintendent

The Middleburgh Central School district names Mark Place as superintendent. According to the Times-Journal Place previously served as superintendent of the Milford Central School District. He succeeds Brian Dunn, who left to become superintendent of the Pine Bush Central School District. Place’s contract will run through July 1, 2025.

Don’t Call Them Inmates

A new state law changes the term used for an individual who is in jail. The word “inmate” will be swapped with “incarcerated individual” in state legislation because according to Gov. Kathy Hochul’s office it will “reduce harmful stigma by correcting outdated terminology used to refer to those people in state law”.

SUNY Oneonta Names New Police Chief

SUNY Oneonta announces that Dirk R. Budd has accepted the role of Chief of Police for the college. Budd takes the helm next Monday from Interim Chief William Henn, who served in the role for the past year. Henn will return to his role as Assistant Chief.

Chenango County Fair Opens Today

The 175th Chenango County Fair kicks off today and runs through Sunday. Agricultural Society President Mary Weidman tells the Evening Sun a ribbon cutting takes place at 1:00 p.m. Other activities include the Firemen’s Parade at 7:00 p.m., a concert at 8:00 p.m. and fireworks at dusk .

SUNY Oneonta Local Alumni Lawn Sign Pick Up – Aug. 16 & 17

The SUNY Oneonta Alumni Association has created a limited supply of lawn signs for alumni who live in Oneonta to display as students arrive to campus starting August 24th. Pick-up for lawn signs will be at the Morris Conference Center on next Tuesday and Wednesday. Limit one per household.

State Street & Linden Ave Closing For Road Work

Road patching work takes place today on both State St. and Linden Ave. in Oneonta. State Street will be closed from Hickey Street to Hazel Street. Bugbee Daycare Center’s parking lot can be accessed by entering from Hazel Street. Linden Ave will be closed from Ford Ave to Elm St.
