Speed Awareness Week In NY

This is “Speed Awareness Week” and police across the state are increasing patrols to catch those not obeying the speed limit and to prevent crashes caused by unsafe speed. During last year’s Speed Awareness Week, more than 23,000 speeding tivkets were issued statewide and over 32,oootickets for other vehicle and traffic law violations.

NY Increases Red Flag Law Filings

State Police report a massive increase in use of red flag law orders seeking to temporarily bar potentially dangerous people from possessing firearms, Over 830 temporary and final red flag law filings were issued since May of this yyear conpared to more than 1,400 filed from August 2019 to April 2022.

Road Work Prep In Oneonta

Starting today a contractor working for the City of Oneonta will begin milling streets in preparation for paving. Work will continue through the week and is weather dependent. On street parking on any of these streets will not be permitted plus road and driveway access will be limited.

Cooperstown PD Helps Special Olympics

Cooperstown Police helped out Special Olympics on Sunday through the “Law Enforcement Torch Run”. Cooperstown Police Chief Frank Cavalieri tells All Otsego the fundraising helps to bring people in to participate in the games for these games with special needs. Ithaca College will host these games in 2023 and 2024.

Woman Charged In Stolen Vehicle Case

A suspicious vehicle check at a Richmondville convenience store results in the driver’s arrest. According to State Police the woman from New Hampshire was driving a vehicle stolen out of Michigan. The woman was arraigned for felony Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Third Degree. She was arraigned then booked into jail.

Lawmakers Get Update On Proposed Schoharie Warehouse Site

State Sen. Peter Oberacker and Assemblyman Chris Tague were among the officials at an update fromthe developer of a Schoharie County warehouse at the site last Tuesday. According to the Daily Gazette the proposed warehouse at the Route 30A exit of Interstate 88 calls for a 540,000-square-foot distribution center-type logistics facility.

Early Voting For Aug. 23 Primary Starts Saturday

Early voting begins this Saturday in Otsego County for the special election on Aug. 23. Voters will choose a replacement for the 19th Congressional District which was vacated when Antonio Delgado was appointed as lieutenant governor. A primary will also be on the ballot for the 51st State Senate District

Off Duty Cops Can’t Brong Guns To NYS Fair

The State Department of Agriculture and Markets has announced that off-duty police officers will no longer be allowed to carry their weapons while attending the New York State Fair. This applies to both personal and department-issued weapons. The fair has had a longstanding no-weapons policy but there was no specific exclusion for off-duty police.

Richmondville To Create Sewer District

The Town of Richmondville is moving ahead on plans to create a sewer district. According to the Cobleskill Times-Journal the district’s estimated cost is $10.1 million with much of it covered by grants. Estimated monthly cost to a homeowner for running the new system would be about $78/month.

NY Awarded $110k For Farm-To-School Program

The State Department of Agriculture and Markets is awarded a $110,000 federal grant grant to grow its Farm-to-School program. It will support producer readiness trainingsto help farmers access the farm-to-school market, and provide the tools, resources, and connections needed to sell their farm products to schools across the State.
