SUNY Oneonta Issues Employee Parking Info For Move In Days

SUNY Oneonta move-in for first-year students is next Wednesday and Thursday and officials say there will be heavy traffic with West Street and Center Street being difficult to travel at times. Employees are asked to download and print an ID from Campus Connection so you can park in designated lots.

Paving & Milling – State Street & Cliff Street

A contractor working for the City of Oneonta will be paving State St and milling Cliff St today. On street parking on these streets will not be permitted plus road and driveway access will be limited during and immediately following the work. Drivers should obey all temporary traffic control devices and flaggers.

Missing Delaware County Woman Found Safe

An elderly Middletown woman reported missing is found safe. State Police and other first responders went to a Huckleberry Hill Road location and a drone aided in the search. The 79-year-old woman was located in a heavily wooded area. She was taken to Margaretville Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

SQSPCA Supports Puppy Mill Pipeline Bill

The Susquehanna SPCA held a press conference on Wednesday urging Governor Kathy Hochul to sign the Puppy Mill Pipeline bill. The SPCA has taken in dogs from puppy mills and has seen first hand the impact of the trauma they have endured through years of suffering.

Harmful Algae Blooms Reported In Otsego Lake

The Otsego County Department of Health reports Harmful Algae Blooms are in parts of Otsego Lake. The blooms can produce toxins that can make people & animals sick. Officials say to stay out of the water in marked areas and also keep pets out of the water.

Smithville Police Pursuit Leads To Arrest

A police pursuit of a motorcyclist that started in the town of Smithville ends in Broome County with the rider taken into custody. Police say the chase ended with a short foot pursuit in the Town of Whitney Point. The rider who is from Norwich also had an arrest warrant.

West St. Closed For Paving

Paving continues today and tomorrow on West Street in Oneonta. The road will be closed and driveways will be inaccessible during this time. Those requiring special needs will be accommodated as needed. Contact the Department of Public Works with any questions.

SNAP Recipients To Get Additional Food Assistance

Those enrolled in the state’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will receive the maximum allowable level of food benefits for August. Households already receiving the maximum monthly benefit, and those that had been receiving an emergency allotment will receive a supplemental payment of at least $95.

Osterhoudt Named Margaretville Schools Superintendent

The Margaretville Central School District names Michelle Osterhoudt as superintendent. She most recently was Principal at Perry Browne Intermediate School in Norwich. Osterhoudt is an Oneonta native and taught middle and high school classes in Oneonta for a decade-and-a-half. She will start her new job in time for the new school year.

Brothers Plead Not Gutily In Oneonta Murder

Not guilty pleas were filed Monday by the 2 suspects in a fatal stabbing in Oneonta on Memorial Day. The 2 men who are brothers were indicted in the death of Kaleb O’Neill who police say was killed at a Dietz St. location. If convicted the brothers could be in jail for life.
