Main St. Sidewalk Closures

Sections of the sidewalk on Main St will be closed for work into next week. Work will start in front of Community Bank followed by Nina’s Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria, and The Yellow Deli. Drivers and pedestrians are asked to obey all temporary traffic control devices.

Otsego County Sheriff Richard Devlin reacts to Governor Kathy Hochul’s decision where jail “inmates” are now being called “incarcerated individuals”. Devlin tells All Otsego what they call them doesn’t seem relevant as there are crime issues now that need to be addressed. He says changing what they call inmates isn’t a priority for them.

Suspect Sought In Walmart Larceny

State Police are looking for a man who walked out of Walmart on State Route 23 in the town of Oneonta without paying for several items. A photo is posted on the department’s Facebook page. An accomplice was arrested but she wouldn’t tell investigators who the man was.

Rabies Case In Chenango County

Several rabies cases are identified in Chenango County. Officials say a 3 rabid bats, a raccoon and a fox were located over the past few weeks. Officials say to make sure dogs, cats and ferrets are up-to-date on vaccines and remove any food left outside so animals aren’t attracted.

Charges Filed In Davenport Crash

Charges are filed in a fatal Davenport crash last May. State police say an East Meredith man was driving a minivan that collided with a tractor-trailer on State Highway 23. A passenger in the minivan was killed. The man was arraigned on Tuesday then booked into jail.

Monkeypox Confirmed In Delaware County

The first case of monkeypox has been confirmed in Delaware County. According to Public Health officials the person traveled outside the county and contact tracing efforts are underway. Those who experience symptoms consistent with monkeypox, such as characteristic rashes or lesions are advised to contact their healthcare provider for a risk assessment.

The Family Service Association in Oneonta is offering free school supplies for your children as they head back to class. Visit the Association’s office on Chestnut Street next Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30pm or Friday August 26 and Saturday August 27 from 9:00 a.m. until noon.

Chenango County Catholic Charities Gets Food Bank Grant

Chenango County Catholic Charities is one of 13 food-access organizations sharing in a $58,000 grant from M&T Bank to address food insecurity. Officials say more than 67,000 people in the areas served by the 13 agencies experienced food insecurity, which is around 12% of the population.

NY Bans Realistic-looking Imitation Weapons Used to Commit Crimes

New York has a new law to strengthen restrictions on imitation weapons, which can be used to commit crimes. It requires making imitation weapons easily identifiable allowing law enforcement to determine a device is fake when assessing threats. Limited common-sense exceptions are permitted for special use, such as imitation weapons used in theatrical productions.
