NPD & CCSO Participating In Mobile Access Program

The Norwich Police Department and the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office are accepted into the Law Enforcement Mobile Access Program . According to the Evening Sun each department will be provided iPads so when officers respond to mental health-related calls, individuals in crisis can speak with a mental health provider via video conferencing.

NYSP Identify Woman’s Remains Found In Morris

State Police identified the woman whose remains were found in the Town of Morris. She is 38-year-old Laura L. Rous of Otego. Investigators did not release the cause of death but say the case remains open and the public is thanked for the many tips received.

Oneonta Woman Sentenced On Federal Drug Charges

An Oneonta woman will be in jail for more than 5 years on her plea deal to federal drug trafficking charges. Prosecutors say Jillian Eckberg transported narcotics from New York City to upstate locations where they were sold to dealers for further redistribution. Eckberg also admitted to selling narcotics on her own.

DWI Patrols Increased For Labor Day

State and local law enforcement agencies across New York are stepping up patrols and targeting impaired driving through Labor Day weekend. This safety initiative is sponsored by STOP-DWI with funding from the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee. Police will also target aggressive and distracted drivers and move over law violators.

DEC Issues Campfire Safety Reminder

All of New York is under a high fire danger and the Department of Environmental Conservation is urrging those building campfires to practice the utmost safety and consider going without a campfire unless absolutely necessary. If you build a campfire be sure it is completely out and cold to the touch before leaving.

Middleburgh FFA Volunteers To Serve At NYS Fair Milk Bar

Volunteers from the Future Farmers of America chapter in Middleburgh are among those staffing the Cornell Cooperative Extension Milk Bar at the great New York State Fair. Attendees can enjoy perfectly chilled cups of 25 cent white or chocolate milk. Strawberry milk will be served during the fair’s final weekend.

Study Sought For Cobleskill Consolidation

Village of Cobleskill officials are requesting proposals for a study to examine consolidation with the town to create a city. According to the Times-Journal consolidation would among other things result in a larger share of county sales-tax revenue which lowers the residential tax burden. Proposals must be submitted by September 19.

NY Expands Tuition Assistance Program to Part-Time Students

New York expands its Tuition Assistance Program to approximately 75,000 additional students who are pursuing their degree part-time. Full-time TAP awards can be up to $5,665 annually so part-time TAP will be available on a pro-rated basis to eligible students taking six to 11 credits per semester.
