DEC Encourages New Hunters and Trappers to Register for Hunting and Trapping Education Courses

The Department of Environmental Conservation reminds all new hunters and trappers planning to go afield this season that they must first complete a mandatory education course before obtaining the appropriate sporting license or hunting privilege.In-person, instructor-led hunter education courses are being during September and October.

Hiker Rescued In Cherry Valley

A woman is rescued after falling into a gorge near Cherry Valley on Saturday. Police say the woman was hiking when she fell 150 feet from a waterfall into a gorge near County Road 50. She was airlifted to Albany Medical Center and has been released.

SQSPCA Neews Dog Fosters & Adopters

The Susquehanna SPCA needs fosters and adopters for its dogs as the shelter is at or over capacity. Officials say there’s been an increase in surrenders due to people going back to work or school along with owners who can’t afford to buy food and supplies. Visit sqspca.org for details.

Diapoli Dings Cobleskill-Richmondville CS

An audit from State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli’s office finds the Cobleskill-Richmondville School District has too much in its fund balance. The audit covering July 2018 through December 2021 determined the balance exceeded the 4% statutory limit by just over 2%. Auditors say the result is tax levies were higher than necessary.

Middleburgh RSO Charged With Failure To Register

A registered sex offender from Middleburgh is charged with failing to register an e-mail address with authorities. State Police say the unregistered address was discovered by the parole department. He was booked on a felony charge then released pending a date in Middleburgh Town Court.

DCSO Holding Open House Sept. 21

In honor of National Sheriff’s Week, Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond and the members of the Sheriff’s Office are hosting an Open House event on September 21 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at their office on Phoebe Lane in Delhi. There will be live demonstrations and other activities.

DOH Warns Of Increased Opioid Overdoses

The New York State Department of Health has been made aware of a rapid increase in opioid-related overdoses in the Central New York region. Officials say these overdoses are likely linked to fentanyl, which is a powerful opioid that is often added to other drugs and to counterfeit medications.
