Man Charged For Breaking Into Home He Was Evicted From

A man is charged for trying to break into a Masonville home he was evicted from. Police say the man was evicted last Thursday and tried to get back in a few hours later damaging the property. He also threatened the owner. The man was arraigned then jailed.

Ryan Sworn In As 19th District Congressman

The 19th Congressional District again has representation in Washington now that Tim Ryan is sworn in to complete the term of Antonio Delgado who was appointed lieutenant governor. Ryan defeated Marc Molinaro in a special election last month. He will hold the seat until the end of the year.

Main St. Closed For Weather Vane Removal

Main Street in Oneonta is closed between Elm Street and Chestnut Street so a contractor can to remove the damaged weather vane on the County Office Building. The sidewalk in front of the building is also closed. Work is scheduled to be completed by noon.

Repairs Today On Country Club Road

City of Oneonta crews are doing repairs on Country Club Road near Oneida Street. Country Club Road will be reduced to one lane traffic. Officials ask drivers to obey all flaggers and temporary traffic control devices. Contact the Department of Public Works if you have any questions.

Oberacker Criticizes Proposed Vehicle Driver Technology Mandates

State Senator Peter Oberacker is criticizing a proposed law by a colleague which reqires advanced safety technology in all vehicles in New York State. Oberacker says the mandate will drive up a vehicle’s cost and make them more unaffordable. If the law passes it would take effect in January 2024.

DCSO Brings Back Law Enforcement Explorer’s Program

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office is bringing back its Law Enforcement Explorer’s Program. It allows high school students interested in law enforcement to get opportunity to work with and learn from sheriff’s office members. The program ended in 2009 following the death of Sergeant Thomas Avery.

Toxic Algae Blooms Still Present In Otsego Lake

SUNY Oneonta Biological Field Station personnel collected samples around Otsego Lake on Monday to test for toxic algae blooms. They were confirmed at 6 of the 7 sample locations. It is not safe to go in the water where blooms are present and animals should also be kept out of th water,
