Laurens Infant Death Investigation Under Way

The Otsego County District Attorney’s office announces an investigating into an infant’s death in Laurens last Tuesday. According to a statement the infant was in her father’s care and the grandmother was also present. An autopsy is pending. No charges have been filed.

DEC Lifts Drought Watch

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation updated the drought status to “Normal” from “Drought Watch” for multiple regions including Otsdego, Chenango and Delaware counties. Even with the status change officials say to continue reducing unnecessary water waste, fixing leaks, and choosing efficient water fixtures.

New Gun Law Provisions Ruled Unconstitutional

Several provisions of New York’s newly enacted gun laws are on hold after a federal judge ruled they are unconstitutional. The state legislature passed the legislation last month after the U.S. Supreme Court tossed the state’s longtime concealed carry laws violated the second amendment. The state has 3 days to appeal.

SQSPCA Closed Today Due To Staff Illness

The Susquehanna SPCA has announced the shelter will be closed to the public today due to staff illness. According to All Otsego the free rabies clinic that was scheduled for today is cancelled. The next one is scheduled on November 7 from 3 – 6 p.m.

World Series Gala Is October 29

The World Series Gala will be held at the Baseball Hall of Fame on Saturday, October 29 in the Grandstand Theater. The family-friendly event features ballpark food and soft drinks and a screening World Series Game 2. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for children under 12.

Family Fall Fun Fest On Saturday At Chestnut Park

Chestnut Park Rehabilitation & Nursing Center is holding a Family Fall Fun Fest this Saturday beginning at 2:00 p.m. Join them for some free fall family fun on the front lawn of Chestnut Park. They will have Cider, Donuts, games, crafts and a car show.

Area Libraries Receive State Grants

State Senator Peter Oberacker announced that community libraries throughout the 51st senatorial district have been awarded a total of over $800,000 in public library construction grant funds. Libraries in Bovina, Edmeston, Fairview, Huntington Memorial Library in Oneonta, Kinney Memorial Library and Richfield Springs received grants.

Roxbury Fire District Holding Budget Public Hearing

The Roxbury Fire District Board of Commissioners holds a public hearing on Tuesday, October 18 at 7:00pm on the proposed 2023 Annual Fire District Budget. The hearing is at the Roxbury Fire House on State Highway 30. Commissioners will act on the budget after the hearing as part of district business.
