Hartwick Professor Celebrates Book Publication

Hartwick College Assistant Professor of Literature, Media, and Writing Tessa Yang celebrates the publication of her first collection entitled“The Runaway Restaurant: Stories”. It is a work of speculative fiction which is a broad classification of writing that encompasses non-realist genres such as fantasy, science fiction, and horror.

DiNapoli Dings Sharon Springs SD

An audit of the Sharon Springs Central School District by State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli’s office found that officials did not properly manage its fund balance causing it to exceed the 4% statutory limit. The audit also found the district needs to improve budgeting practices and be more transparent with residents and taxpayers.

Felony Charges Filed In Worcester Vehicle Theft

A man from Montgomery County is charged with stealing a vehicle from Worcester last month. According to the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office the man was caught after getting into a collision in that county with the stolen vehicle. He is to appear in the town of Worcester Court today.

SUNY Oneonta Holds Dialog With Hartwick President

SUNY Oneonta’s Career Development Center is hosting the annual Graduate and Professional School Fair on Thursday, Oct. 20 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. in the Chase Gym. Representatives from more than 60 colleges and universities will participate and answer questions about their programs.

NY Allocates $8.5M To Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced a $8.5 million ClimateTech Growth platform to support companies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It provides resources for entrepreneurs and supporta the state’s goal of reducing carbon emissions 85% by the year 2050. The State Energy Research and Development Authority is overseeing the program.

Bruen Resigns As NYSP Superintendent

State Police Superintendent Kevin Bruen formally resigned Friday after an investigation began into reports he shielded a former human resources official from internal complaints because of their close working relationship. Bruen was appointed superintendent in June 2021. His resignation is effective October 19.

NY Creates Child Poverty Reduction Advisory Council

New York now has a Child Poverty Reduction Advisory Council which is to develop a plan over the next decade to cut child poverty in half. Research shows more than 15% or 1 in 5 children are living in poverty. The council’s initial meeting is this Thursday.

Helios Care Receives Bereavement Program Grant

Helios Care receives a $2,000 grant from Excellus BlueCross BlueShield to support free bereavement counseling for the public. According to All Otsego the program provides grief counseling services online and in person through support groups, individual counseling, camps for children, coping kits, and presentations to the public.
