A Town of Springfield traffic stop turns into a drug bust. Police say they stopped a driver on Route 80 for moving violations and a vehicle search resulted in the seizure of methamphetamine, The driver and 2 passengers are now facing charges including a felony.

Crime Reimbursement Cap Increased To $2,500.

Victims and survivors of crime whose essential personal property was stolen, damaged or destroyed may now receive up to $2,500 from the state Office of Victim Services to replace items deemed necessary for their health, safety or welfare. Prior to this change, state law capped the reimbursement rate at $500.

The Village of Cooperstown Police Department has a new full-time officer. All Otsego reports Jess Lanza had been serving part time since graduating the Police Academy in June. Lanza says he was inspired to join the police force by his father who had worked in law enforcement for 30 years.

Area Counties Receive Federal Grants For Counterterrorism Support

Otsego, Chenango and Delaware counties recieve grants to support counterterrorism and emergency preparedness efforts. The funding through FEMA supports regional homeland security preparedness efforts, including planning, organization, equipment, training, and exercise activities. The New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services manages these programs in close coordination with local authorities.

Charges Filed In Illegal Dumping Investigation

State Department of Environmental Conservation officers investigateed an illegal solid waste dumping report in the town of Maryland. The investigation determined an absentee property owner hired two men who dumped construction debris at that location and in the Albany area. Charges were filed here and are pending in Albany.
