Nonprofit Collecting Used Bikes & Sewing Machines

Pedals for Progress/Sewing Peace is conducting a used bike and sewing machine collection on Oct. 29 at the Otsego ReUse Center. Anyone with a bicycle in repairable condition or portable sewing machine in working condition is urged to drop off along will a suggested donation to cover shipping charges.

Morris Man Charged In Sexual Abuse Investigation’

An Otsego County Sheriff’s Office sexual abuse investigation results in a man from the Town of Morris facing multiple charges. The investigation determined the abuse involved 3 victims and started several years ago. The man is jailed on $5,000 cash bail or a $25,000 bond.

Oneonta Asks Community To Display Green Light For Military

The City of Oneonta is encouraging the community to honor military service members from now through November 13th by displaying a green light in a window of your home or business. The Common Council passed a resolution designating these dates to honor the service and sacrifice of Military personnel.

It’s National School Bus Safety Week

This is National School Bus Safety Week and the Department of Motor Vehicles along with the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee remind drivers to stop and wait whenever they encounter a school bus with its red lights flashing and “stop” sign extended. Drivers who pass a stopped school bus could be ticketed and fined.

New Berlin Man To Get New Trial On Murder Charges

A Chenango County judge has ordered a new trial in the 2012 murder of a New Berlin man’s wife after finding that a defense lawyer employed “blatant lies” to trick everyone including the judge. According to syracuse.com Ganesh Ramsaran has served more than 8 years of his 25-year-to-life sentence.

Amphenol Aerospace Workers On Strike

International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers members are walking the picket lines at Amphenol Aerospace in Sidney. The strike began on Saturday after the rank-and-file voted to strike after failing to come to terms on a new contract. There’s no word on when negotiations will continue.

SUNY Oneonta’s Spring 2023 Course Schedule Released

SUNY Oneonta Fall Commencement Is Dec. 11

Celebrate the SUNY Oneonta class of 2022 at the Fall Commencement ceremony on Sunday, Dec. 11 at 11:00 a.m. Those interested in volunteering can reach out to Christina Miller at the Office of the President. Faculty participating in the processional must reserve and pay for rental regalia by Oct. 26.

Fire At Bassett Hospital Patient Room

A small fire occurred Monday morning in a private inpatient room at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown. The fire was contained in a garbage can. No patients were injured. 15 patients were relocated within the hospital while teams cleaned the area. State Police are investigating the incident.

Area Counties Receive FEMA Disaster Preparedness Funding

Otsego, Chenango and Delaware counties recieve grants to support disaster preparedness efforts. The funding through FEMA assists efforts ranging from the development and implementation of training and exercises to acquiring emergency response resources at the county level. Chenango and Delaware Counties received around $25,000 And Otsego County was awarded just over $28,000.
