NY’s Homeownership Rate Lowest in the Nation

A study from State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli’s office finds New York has the lowest homeownership rate in the nation. 53.6% of New York households owned a home in the second quarter of 2022, compared to 65.8% nationally. The study found there is a racial and ethnic ownership disparity higher than the rest of the country.

Afton Man Charged In BMC Arson

An Afton man is charged for setting a fire earlier this week at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown. Police say it happened in a patient room and more than a dozen people were treated for smoke inhalation. Damage to the room and equipment was over a thousand dollars.

Special Prosecutor Handling Ramsaran Retrial

A special prosecutor is handling the new trial for Ganesh Ramsaran in the 2012 death of his wife. A judge ordered the new trial after what he called “blatant dishonesty” from Ramsaran’s lawyer. The prosecutor says a trial date may be set during a conference next month.

Otsego Express Ending Free Fares

The free fares on Otsego Express public transit routes will end on November 2. The free fares were paid for with federal COVID-19 relief funds. Monthly passes purchased for use during May 2022 will be honored during November. More information is at otsegoexpress.com

The City of Oneonta is setting the traffic signals on Main Street at Walling Ave. and Third Street to flash mode beginning next Monday through Monday, Nov. 7th. 3 Suspects Charged In Walton Business Burglaries

3 suspects are charged from a six-month-long Delaware County Sheriff’s office business burglary investigation. The suspect stole a number of items from Herman’s Trailer Sales in the Town of Walton on multiple dates. All 3 suspects were arraigned then released on their own recognizance.
