State Police are asking for tips to locate a piece of machinery stolen from a Masonville building sometimw bwtqwwn July and this month. The Buffalo Turbine water pump was stolen from a building on Route 8 that was to be demolished.

Applications Accepted For Capital Costs Tax Credit Program

Small businesses can apply for New York’s Capital Costs Tax Credit Program for expenses to meet emergency orders and regulations or that increased public safety due to the pandemic. The credits will cover 50% of eligible costs, up to $50,000, for a maximum tax credit of $25,000.

SUNY Drops Application Fees Until Nov. 6

The State University of New York is dropping application fees across all 64 colleges and universities through Sunday, Nov. 6, allowing prospective students to apply to up to five campuses free of charge. The potential savings add up to $250 per applicant.

Maryland Man Jailed For Failing To Register As Sex Offender

A man from Maryland who failed to register as a sex offender will be in jail for just over 6 months. Federal prosecutors say Michael Hawkins took a plea deal which includes 5 years of supervised release. Hawkins move to Maryland from Rhode Island but didn’t tell authorities.

Butternuts Road Named For Army Veteran

A section of State Route 51 in Butternuts is now named for a Vietnam War veteran. The section near the town limits is named for Army Specialist-4 Richard F. Walton Jr., who was killed in a helicopter crash. The naming ceremony was held on Tuesday.

DEC Accepting Applications For Volunteer Fire Assistance Grants

The Department of Environmental Conservation is accepting applications for nearly $640,000 in Volunteer Fire Assistance grant funding to help rural fire departments protect public safety and natural resources. The deadline for applications is Nov. 15. Departments will receive 50/50 matching funds up to $1,500.

Ag & Markets Conducting Urban Agriculture Study

The State Department of Agriculture and Markets is conducting a study of urban agriculture to better understand the industry and put forth policy recommendations to further support it. The study is being conducted in partnership with Cornell Cooperative Extension’s urban agriculture work team.
