Fire Destroys Cooperstown Home

A Cooperstown home is destroyed from a fire blamed on a recently-used lawnmower. Investigators say the man had parked the mower next to the Hooligan Hill Road home’s garage when the mower caught fire and flames spread to the home. No one was hurt.

NY Allocates Funds For Adoption Awareness

November is Adoption Awareness Month and New York is allocating $4.7 million in federal funding to support a broad range of adoption-related services administered through the state Office of Children and Family Services. It includes recruiting adoptive homes plus training or conferences to improve adoption casework.

DVH Hosts MASH Camp

UHS Delaware Valley Hospital sponsored a Mash Camp for area tenth, eleventh and twelfth grade students on October 25th & 26th. They toured the inpatient medical unit, ambulatory services and the ER along with other departments. They were given backpacks filled with a variety of swag items and information.

Fire Damages Greene Home

Fire dameged a Town of Greene home Monday afternoon. According to Chenango County Dispatch multiple fire companies responded to the Bunt Road home along with EMS personnel. No injuries were reported. The fire’s cause is under investigation.

HEAP Applications Now Being Accepted

Applications are nw being accepted for home heating bill assistance through the Home Energy Assistance Program. Officials say eligible households can receive a one-time benefit of up to $976. Eligibility is based on income, household size and how the home is heated.

Sidewalk Work at 47 Chestnut St

A City of Oneonta contractor is working on the sidewalk at 47 Chestnut Street Wednesday through Friday. That means a section of the sidewalk between Main Street to Church Street will be closed. Work hours are from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

State IG Accepts NTSB Schoharie Limo Crash Findings

State Inspector General Lucy Lang has accepted the findings of the NTSB’s investigation into the 2018 Schoharie limo crash that killed 20 people. She agreed that DOT and DMV failed to utilize all legal remedies to bring the limo company into compliance. No evidence of employee misconduct was found.

Gas Prices On The Rise

Gas prices are creeping upward once again. Triple-A reports the statewide average for regular is now $3.82 which is 15 cents more than a week ago. Otsego and Delaware County are averaging $3.87 while in Chenango County the average is $3.84.

Sales Tax Collections Up But Don’t Match Inflation

State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli’s office reports local government sales tax collections grew by 10.2% in the third quarter of 2022 compared to the same period last year. DiNapoli says this is the second straight quarter that year-over-year growth did not keep pace with inflation for counties and cities outside of New York City.
