NY Clean Energy Jobs Hit Record Levels

A report from Governor Kathy Hochul’s office says the number of clean energy jobs in the state reached a record level of 165,000 at the end of 2021. This exceeds the number of jobs before the pandemic by 1,300. Solar accounted for the largest share of job gains.

Hochul Announces Initiative to Aid Working Caregivers

Governor Kathy Hochul announced an initiative to raise awareness of unpaid working caregivers and the statewide resources available to help them. Hochul also urged state workers to complete a survey on their experiences balancing their jobs with caregiving tasks and encouraged private employers to do the same.

Chenango County Man Sentenced On Federal Drug Charges

A man from Chenango County is sentenced to 87 months in prison from his plea deal for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possessing a firearm in a drug trafficking crime. Jonas Whaley pleaded guilty to the federal charges last April. He will be on post-release supervision for 4 years.

DiNapoli Says NY Workforce Is Shrinking

State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli’s office reports New York’s workforce is down 19,000 over the last two years marking the largest decline after the great recession. The report said New York’s workforce declined more rapidly than the rest of the nation in 2020 and continued to shrink in 2021 when other states recovered.

Water Valve Replacement In Oneonta

The Oneonta Department of Public Works is installing a new water valve today at 130 East Street on Graduate Drive near the S curve. Work begins at 8:00 p.m. and during the project traffic will be reduced to one lane. Officials say to obey all temporary traffic control devices.

DCFD Chaplain Recovering From Accident Injuries

Delaware County Fire and Police Chaplain Elliott Oakes is back home after suffering serious injuries in an accident earlier this month. Oakes was taken to Albany Medical Center and was released on Monday. His wife suffered minor injuries in the accident and was treated then released.

Oneonta Receives Grant For Theatre Work

The City of Oneonta receives a $500,000 state grant to help pay for the stabilization of the historic Oneonta Theatre. Senator Peter Oberacker says with the downtown district in the midst of a full-scale transformation the theatre will play a leading role.

Buffalo Mass Shooting Suspect Pleads Guilty To All Counts

The suspect in last May’s shooting at a Buffalo supermarket is sentenced to life in prison without parole. According to multiple reports Payton Gendron pleaded guilty to all charges brought by the state. 10 people were killed and 3 others injured in what prosecutors say was a case of domestic terrorism.

Kentucky Company & Principal Plead Guilty To Illegal Dumping

A Kentucky-based freight shipping and trucking company and its vice-president take a plea deal on charges of illegally dumping contaminated railroad ties treated with hazardous materials in Chenango County and creating fake scale tickets to conceal the illegal disposal. The state charged Cross Tie Disposal, Inc. last April.
