Helios Care Thrift Shap Moves To New Location

Helios Care’s Thirft Shop and Boutique is now open at its new location in Price Chopper Plaza on State Highway 7. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. 100% of the proceeds go to support local hospice families in their time of personal need.

Woman Killed In Town Of Columbus Crash

A collision between a van and a tractor trailer in the town of Columbus takes a woman’s life. Police say it happened at State Route 8 and County Route 25 where the van hit the tractor trailer. The woman was a passenger in the van.

King Named SUNY Chancellor

The State University of New York has a new Chancellor. He’s former Secretary of Education John B. King Jr. and succeeds interim Chancellor Deborah F. Stanley. King served under President Barack Obama and becomes SUNY’s 15th Chancellor after a year-long global search process.

Bassett Resigns As Health Commissioner

New York is looking for a new Health Commissioner now that Dr. Mary Bassett resigned to return to Harvard University’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Bassett took the job 13 months ago and said she was leaving so the next commissioner can serve a full four-year term.

State Donation Drive Accepting Items In Oneonta

New York’s annual holiday donation drive is under way through Dec. 16. Donations of new unwrapped toys, coats and school supplies can be brought to the Homer Folks Facility at 28 Hill St. in Oneonta. Community-based organizations will distribute items to families in need.

Police Chase Ends With Arrest

A speeding driver on I-88 leads State Troopers on a chase that ended when they boxed the vehicle in. The chase started in Worcester and ended in the Town of Oneonta. Once stopped the man who is from Albany refused to surrender but was eventually apprehended.

Operation Hardhat Results Are In

State Police announce more than 3,000 tickets were issued statewide since April 1 as part of “Operation Hardhat”, the speed enforcement campaign targeting work zones. That is a new record and nearly 700 tickets more than in 2021. Officers were embedded in work zones to catch violators.

DCSO Deputies Donate To Toys For Tops

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol Division raised $540 for Toys for Tots and another $540 for an upcoming “Random Acts of Kindness” holiday initiative. Corrections Officers donated $1,000 toward the purchase of toys, and the Corrections Officers Union donated $1,000 from the “No Shave November” initiative.

Juvenile Delinquency Lowert Age Changes Dec. 29

Beginning December 29 New York’s age of juvenile delinquency will go from 7 to 12 years old. According to authorities this will change the response programs for children under 12 whose behavior would have brought them into the family court system.
