Unadilla Valley Voters Approve Capital Project

Unadilla Valley Central School District voters approve a $17.8 million capital project by an overwhelming majority. Officials say the project is being paid for by state funding and the district’s reserve funds meaning no tax increase. The district begins the design phase early next year.

Local Sales Tax Collections Grow by Nearly 9% in November

State Comptroiller Thomas DiNapoli’s office reports local sales tax collections increased by 8.8% in November compared to the same month in 2021. Overall, local collections totaled $1.72 billion, up $139 million compared to the same time last year. The numbers are baseded on estimates by the state Department of Taxation and Finance

Oneonta Girl Scout Named To Gold Award Class

A Girl Scout from Oneonta is named to the organization’s statewide Gold Award Class of 2022 for making a sustainable impact addressing causes they care about within their communities. Natalie Thompson’s project focused on educating kids and teens about the topic of mental health via an online platform.

Catskill Scenic Trail ATV Ban Remains In Place

The operators of the Catskill Scenic Trail continues to ban motorized vehicles other than snowmobiles. In October the Catskill Revitalization Corporation was asked to use ATVs on the trail and made the decision not to make changes after after conducting an online survey.

New York’s annual ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ campaign for the holiday season is underway through Jan. 1. There are increased road patrols and sobriety checkpoints to catch intoxicated drivers. Last year over 2,000 tickets were issued fdor impaired driving.

Suspects Arrested In Delhi Shoplifting

2 people are charged with stealing power tools from a Delhi store. Police say the two were seen walking out without paying for the items. They were booked then released on their own recognizance. The same susapects are connected shoplifting incidents in the Capital Region.

Hochul Signs Bill To Rename Walton Bridge

A bridge in the village of Walton will be renamed to honor a Medal of Honor recipient from the Vietnam war. Assemblyman Joseph Angelino’s office says a bill to honor Lt. Stephen H. Doane passed the Legislature last June and has now been signed by Governor Kathy Hochul.

Airboat Training On The Susquehanna River

If you saw a group of airboats on the Susquehanna River near the town of Bainbridge last week you were witnessing a training session held by the state Department of Environmental Conservation. Forest Rangers conducted training for new airboat operators and current operators to maintain proficiency.

Charges Filed In Greene Fraud Case

Grand larceny charges are brought in a State Police investigation into an incident in Greene where a contractor was paid to do work at a home but never completed it. The man from Broome County was arraigned then released pending a court date next month.
