2 Agencies Get State Grant To Fund Home Repairs

Otsego Rural Housing Assistance and the Western Catskills Community Revitalization Council are receiving state grants administered by the Homes and Community Renewal department. The money will go to help homeowners and renters including seniors veterans and those with disabilities pay for critical repairs and modifications.

Water Valva Replacement In Onenta On Tuesday

City of Oneonta crews will replace a service on Tuesday. There will be a temporary water outage around 9:00 a.m. until work is completed. The road will be closed from the Corning, Inc. driveway entrance to the dead end. Run faucets after service rstoration to remove discoloration.

Unatego Jr-Sr High School Closed TFN

The Unatego Jr-Sr High School building was evacuated Thursday due to smoke in the laundry room. Students were sent home early. Out of an abundance of caution, until the affected area is professionally cleaned the building will remain closed. Students can collect their belongings today between 7:30-9:30.

NY Implements Warehouse Worker Protection Act

New York enacts laws protecting warehouse distribution workers from undisclosed or unlawful work speed quotas and includes protections for workers who fail to meet unlawful quotas. Companies can no longer fire someone for failing to meet an undisclosed quota.

NY Implements Gift Card Mandates For Sellers

The state now requires businesses selling gift cards to give notice of potential scams. The sellers are also mandated to provide information on what to do if they believe they may be a victim of such a scam. New gift cards are mandated to be valid for a minimum of 9 years.

NY Establishing Rape Kit Tracking System

New York will get an electronic tracking system for sexual offense evidence collection kits, commonly known as rape kits. Officials say this system ensures that all survivors of sexual assault have access to information about the status and location of their kits. The Division of Criminal Justice Services will operte the system.

Hancock Opens Ice Rink Today

The Town of Hancock officially opens its new ice rink today. It was partially paid for through a Delaware County Economic Development Office for Tourism grant. It’s located at Hancock Town Square on East Main Street. A ribbon cutting is at 1:30 p.m.

Oneonta Evaluating Future Of ‘The Armory’

City of Oneonta officials are evaluating the physical condition and potential future uses of the Asa C. Allison Jr. Municipal Building on the corner of Academy Street and Fairview Street. Residents can weigh via an online survey and a link is poted at the City’s Facebook page.

Afton Has New Historical Mural

The Village of Afton has a new historical wall mural at the former Great American grocery store on Main Street. It depicts children blowing bubbles that float throughout the painting and each bubble illustrating a part of Afton’s history. The builing is now known as “The HUB”.

Mimimum Wage Going Up In 2023

Minimum wage workers in New York get a dollar-an-hour pay increase in the new year. The upstate minimum goes from $13.20 to $14.20. The minimum wage for home care aids will also increase to $16.20 per hour. The State Department of Labor says 44% of upstate workers make the minimum.
