NY Completes ConnectALL Phase 1

New York completes the first phase of its ConnectALL program. The network uses fiber optic infrastructure on the New York Power Authority’s existing transmission system. The Evening Sun reports the project is ahead of schedule due to the Village of Sherburne and Town of Nichols optimizing implementation plans.

NY Enacts New LHBTQ+ Healthcare Laws

New York takes action to address healthcare disparities in the LGBTQ+ community. New laws allow minors identifying as LGBTQ+ who are runaways or homeless to make their own healthcare decisions and will prepare nurse and home health aides to work with LGBTQ+ populations more effectively.

Christmas Day Fire In Oneonta

A Christmas Day fire damaged an Oneonta home. Firefighters responding to the Oneida Street home found it was fully engulfed so reinforcements were called in with a total of 8 departments deployed. There’s been no word on if anyone was injured and the fire’s cause is under investigation.

SQSPCA Needs Emergency Fosters

The Susquehanna SPCA puts out a call for foster families after 25 dogs were brought to the shelter late last week. 10 were from an Ohio puppy mill and the rest came from a West Edmeston home where the owner voluntarily surrendered the dogs.

West Edmeston Man Charged With Hundreds Of Child Sex Crimes

A West Edmeston man faces hundreds of child sex charges from a Steuben County investigation. State Police say it happened between 2012 and 2016 when the man lived in Corning. He was arraigned then booked into the Steuben County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail $20,000 property bond.

EMT Saves Dogs From Pittsfield Apartment Fire

Two dogs are rescued from a Christmas Day apartment fire in Pittsfield. Authorities tell News 10 an EMT who works at a nearby ambulance service rushed in when she saw the fire. The EMT went back into the burning apartment twice to make sure there were no people inside.

State Lawmakers Approve Pay Hike

Minimum wage workers aren’t the only ones getting a government-mandated pay hike. The state legisature approved a $32,000 pay raise for themselves that’s effective the first of the year. Their minimum salary goes from $110,000 a year, to $142,000. Governor Kathy Hochul will need to approve the hike.

Norwich DRI Projects Unveiled

We’re getting a look at the projects the state approved for Norwich’s $10 million downtown revitalization award. They include a new Downtown boutique hotel, rehabilitating the Unguentine and Heritage Buildings plus creating a Downtown Norwich Small Project Grant Fund. Norwich won the award last year.
