Body Found In Neahwa Park

Oneonta Police reported a body was found Saturday morning in Neahwa Park. It’s not clear if the remains were a man or a woman and the circumstances behind the death aren’t being released. David W. Brenner Drive was briefly closed during the investigation.

NY Collects $709M In Sports Betting Taxes

New York collected over $709 million in taxes on sports bets since January of last year. According to Governor Kathy Hochul’s office this is a number that leads the nation. $200 million in licensing fees has also been collected. The governor’s office said most of the revenue will be used toward education.

Scorpion Found In Norwich School Banana Case

Cafeteria workers at Stanford J. Gibson Primary School in Norwich got quite the surprise when a scorpion was found in a case of bananas. Officials say it likely hitched a ride from Guatemala in the box carrying the fruit. The arachnid was captured then taken to the high school for iuts zoolology program.

Hartwick Man Takes Child Sex Abuse Plea Deal

A man charged in a town of Walton child sexualabuse investigation takes a plea deal. Prosecutors say the man who is from Hartwick pleaded guilty to felony criminal sexual act in the 2016 incint involving a child younger than 11 years old. The man will be sentenced March 6.

Charges Filed In Hartwick Larceny Investigation

Charges are filed in a Hartwick larceny invesrigation. Police say an employee reported a man left a store after shoplifting merchandise. The man who is from the town of Oneonta was located, booked then released on his own recognizance.

Norwich RSO Facing New Charges

A level 3 registered sex offender out on parole is facing new charges from a Chenango County Sheriff’s investigation into reports of attacks on 2 teenage girls. The man is charged with 2nd degree sexual abuse, forcible touching, unlawful imprisonment and endangering the welfare of a child. He’s jailed without nond.

School District Tax Levy Cap at 2% for Second Straight Year

State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli’s office announced property tax levy growth for school districts and the state’s biggest cities will be capped at 2%, the same as last year. The tax cap includes a provision that allows school districts to override the cap with 60% voter approval of their budget.

Oneonta YMCA Holding VIP Reception

The Oneonta YMCA is holding a VIP reception at the Foothills Performing Arts Center on Feb. 4. at 3:00 p.m. Children ages 3-10 and their chosen ‘VIP’ can take part in dancing, crafts, food, beverages and a photo booth. Tickets are $55 for adults and $20 per child.
