PRV Work In Oneonta Today

The City of Oneonta is repairing its PRV Pit on Lower West St today. Work concludes by 5:00pm. During these working hours, West St will be reduced to one lane traffic. Drivers are asked to obey flaggers and all temporary traffic control devices.

Oneonta Commission To Review Ward Boundaries

The City of Oneonta will be reviewing its ward boundaries, as per New York State requirements in response to the 2020 census, with a charter-based citizen commission-centered process. The commission, led by former Mayor Gary Herzig holds its first meeting on Tuesday, January 24.

SUNY Oneonta Gets More EV Charging Stations

SUNY Oneonta will have 4 more EV charging stations starting Monday. These are in the Hunt Union parking lot and join the Chargepoint station in the Alumni Field House parking lot. It is expected that stations will continue to be added on campus to meet demand.

State Taking Action To Prevent Firefighter Cancer

The state’s Office of Fire Prevention and Control will begin new outreach efforts to help protect firefighters and their families from the threat of cancer. State A similar outreach program was lauched in early 2020 but was put on hold due to the pandemic. This new initiative coincides with January’s Firefighter Cancer Awareness Month.

Chenango County Historical Society & Museum Gets NYCHA Grant

The Chenango County Historical Society & Museum received grant awards totaling $50,000 from the New York State Council on the Arts to support the recovery of the nonprofit arts and culture sector. Thw Council has awarded $90 million since Spring 2022 to a record number of artists and organizations across the state.

Investigation Continues Into Newhwa Paek Death

Oneonta Police release more information in the discovery of a body at Neahwa Park. Officers found the remains of a 35-year-old man last Saturday. He was identified and next of kin was notified. Investigators say the death is not considered suspicious.

Bassett Medical Center Holds Blood Drive Jan. 30

Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown is partnering with the American Red Cross for a b;ood drive on Jan. 30 from 12:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. It will be inside Bassett Hall Auditorium. Appointments are highly recommended but walk-ins are welcome. Mask wearing is required.

Smyrna Dinged In SiNapoli Audit

An audit from State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli’s office finds the town of Smyrna did not always properly audit its claims for payment. The audit covered Jan. 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022. Officials say they plan to update payment and policy procedures this month.

Delhi Man Charged In Home Burglary

Bond is set at $50,000 for a Dehi man indicted in a burglary last August. Prosecutors say the man had a loaded shotgun when he broke into a Town of Delhi home damaging the property and stole several items. He is due in court next week.
