Delaware County Fair Board Elects New Members

The Delaware County Fair Board held elections last week for two vacant Fair Board seats. Jeremy Dean and John Seward will fill the seats of retiring Board members, Danny Hodges and Bob Moody. The 136th Delaware County Fair opens August 14.

Eviction Leads To Wanted Woman’s Arrest

Delaware County Sheriff’s deputies conducting an eviction at a Village of Hancock property find a resident had an active arrest warrant from the county family court. She was arraigned and released on her own recognizance to reappear at Family Court at a later date.

Stolen Vehicle Stop Leads To 2 Arrests

2 people are facing multiple charges after being caught by Otsego County Sheriff’s deputies in a stolen vehicle. The stop happened on Oneida Street in Oneonta and deputies also seized heroin and fentanyl from the vehicle. One of the 2 individuals also had an active arrest warrant.

Sidney Man Charged With Firing Air Gun

A man from Sidney is facing charges after a police investigation into firing an air gun. The man is charged with criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, & discharging a gun within village limits. He is free on his own recognizance pending a future court date.

Chenango SPCA Brings Back Fur Ball

The Chenango SPCA is bringing back their Fur Ball fundraiser for its 17th year after a hiatus due to the pandemic. The Evening Sun reports the semi-formal event is February 11 at the Canasawacta Country Club in Norwich. The fundraiser has a Valentine’s Day theme this year.

NY Ending Enhanced SNAP Benefits

New York is ending its enhanced Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits after February. It’s the result of the U.S. Department of Agriculture ending its emergency allotments issuance. The emergency allotments were a temporary tool to help low-income families get through the pandemic.

Catskills Addiction Coalition Changes Name

The Catskills Addiction Coalition changes its name to Catskills Pathways to Recovery. Officials say the change better promotes and improves access to compassionate, stigma-free care, grounded in a harm-reduction approach, for people living with substance use disorders and mental illness.

OFO Conducta PIT Homeless Count

Opportunities for Otsego prepared for last night’s point-in-time count of the homeless by meeting with community partners and provided blankets to be given to unsheltered people they encounter. Blankets were provided by the Southern Tier Homeless Coalition, who is coordinating the count across a six-county region.

Colchester Police Seek Tips To Catch Burglars

The Colchester Police Department is investigating a burglary on Wednesday that occurred on County Highway 26 today at around 1:45pm to 2:30pm. Surveillance photos are posted at the department’s Facebook page. Conract police if you can identify the suspects or the vehicle they were driving.

NY Completes More Than 1,000 Joint Counter Terrorism Exercises in 2022

The State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services’ Office of Counter Terrorism conducted training exercises at more than 1,000 locations last year. Teams assessed suspicious activity reporting and recognition at retailers and businesses that sell chemicals, compounds, components, services, or rent space or resources that could be exploited by those with nefarious intent.
