Individual Rescused From Afton Home Fire

A fire damaged an Afton home Thursday morning. Crews responding to the St. John Rd. residence found an unconscious person inside and they were brought to Wilson Hospital. Firefighters say the blaze was mostly on the first floor but the second floor had heat and smoke damage.

Red Closet Thrift Shop Closed TFN

SUNY OIneonta’s e Red Closet Thrift Shop is being restructured to better support the needs of the campus community. There will be no regular open hours in spring 2023 but they do plan to offer special thrift shop events. Donations will not be accepted until further notice.

SUNY Oneonta Spring Commencement Is May 20

Mark your calendars for SUNY Oneonta’s Spring 2023 Commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 20. Faculty who wish to participate must sign up. Regalia is available for purchase by March 10 or rental with a deadline of April 14. Regalia orders must be placed in person at Red Dragon Outfitters.

Norwich Man Awaits Murder Conviction Retrial

The Norwich man whose 2014 conviction of killing his wife was thrown out awaits a date for his retrial. The Evening Sun reports Ganesh Ramsaran remains in jail. The convicrtion was overturned because it was determined his previous defense was not adequate.

Otsego County OES Offering Free CPR & AED Classes

In celebration of February being Heart Month, the Otsego County Office of Emergency Services is hosting free CPR & Automated External Defribulator classes. Individuals who cannot attend the classes but are interested in free training should contact the office by logging on to otsegocounty.com.

Bassett Welcomes Columbia-Bassett Class of 2025

Bassett Medical Center announced it is welcoming the 10 students comprising the Columbia-Bassett Medical School Program Class of 2025. The students have completed their 18 months of pre-clinical training on Columbia’s New York City campus and will now be based at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown for the clinical component of their education.

Forest Rangers In Sherburne For Ice Rescue Training

Last week several Department of Environmental Conservation lForest Rangers participated in flat ice rescue training in the village of Sherburne. Rangers practiced techniques to self-rescue after falling through the ice and worked on single- and multi-rescuer techniques for ice rescues.

A new report by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli identifies policy and fiscal weaknesses that have allowed state debt to grow to troubling levels. The report offers a roadmap for state debt reform to improve debt affordability and protect New York’s fiscal health.

NY Farm Bureau Gov. Budget Statement

The New York Farm Bureau is thanking Governor Kathy Hochul for additional funding in her proposed budget for agriculture. It includes $10 million to eliminate food scarcity which would support farm markets and supply chain improvements. There is also support for NY FarmNet to address mental health needs in the farming community.
