Rabid Bat Found In Otego

The Otsego County Health Department reports a rabid bat was located in the town of Otego. Officials say while no humans were exposed a vaccinated cat was exposed and will need a rabies booster shot. State law requires all dogs, cats and ferrets to be vaccinated against rabies.

NY Announces Annual Free Snowmobiling Weekend

New York is waiving registratioin requirements for all out-of-state and Canadian snowmobilers during March 3 to 5. Snowmobiles need to be registered in its home state or province and owners carry any applicable insurance as required. The promotion will be done annually on the first consecutive Saturday and Sunday in March.

Oxley To Deliver Hartwick’s Leslie G. Rude Memorial Lecture

Hartwick College announces the 2023 Leslie G. Rude Memorial Lecture will be delivered by Union College Professor of Political Science Zoe Oxley on March 1 at 4:00 p.m. Her presentation, “This One’s for the Boys: How Gendered Political Socialization Limits Girls’ Political Ambition and Interest” is free and open to the public.

State Parks Had Record Attendance

New York State parks hit an attendance record in 2022. Officials say there were 79.5 million visits last year which is a million more than in 2021. Niagara Falls State Park was the moist-visited in 2022 followed by Jones Beach State Park and Robert Moses State Park.

Bassett Will Continue to Require Masks in All Healthcare Settings

Bassett Healthcare Network annoiunced it will continue to require masks for all people in patient care and public areas of their buildings, including in hospitals, clinics, long-term care and rehabilitation facilities, and school-based health centers. The state recently lifted the mask mandate for health care facilities.

Guilty Plea in Vehicular Manslaughter Case

A man from East Meredith charged in a 2022 crash where his passenger died takes a plea deal. Prosecutors say Adam Bright pleaded guilty in the death of Stacey M. Stachow after Bright hit an oncoming truck on State Route 23 in the Town of Davenport.

Delaware County Chief Assistant DA Welcomed

Delaware County has a new chief assistant district attorney. He’s David Rikard who moved back to Delaware County from Prattsville in Greene County, where he served as town justice for nine years. He staryed with Delaware County last week.

Former Plymouth Official Charged In Embezzlement Investigation

A former Town of Plymouth official is charged with fraud and multiple larceny counts from a State Police embezzlement investigation. The man was found to have used town money since December 2020 to purchase car parts, tools, and materials for his own personal gain. He is to appear in court next week.
