Cooperstown Central School Hosting Leadership Training Program

Cooperstown Central School’s Annual Student-Athlete Leadership Conference begins on Friday. Approximately 300 student athletes along with their Athletic Directors representing nearly 50 school districts around Central New York will be at the day-long conference at the Clark Sports Center and the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.

Sullivan County Man Charged In Hancock Rape

A man is arraigned in coinnection with a 2021 Deleware County forcible rape inciden. Prosecutors say the man from Sullivan Coiunty is charged with Rape in the First Degree and Sexual Abuse in the First Degree. The man was denied bail and is due back in court next week.

DEC Offers Coyota Encounter Guidance

The Department of Environmental Conservation issued guidance to help prevent conflicts between people and coyotes. They recommend not keeping animal feed outside and prevent access along with compost piles. Do not allow coyotes to approach people or pets and don’t allow pets to run free.

Sidney Residents Charged In Drug Investigation

3 Sidney residents face charges after an investigation determined the trio allowed a two-year-old to be around illegal drugs last September. All 3 are charged with felony child abuse whe one of the is charged with possesion of more than two ounces of methamphetamine with the intent to sell.

OCCA Giving Away A Week At DEC Summer Camp For Kids

The Otsego County Conservation Association is giving away a chance for children ages 11 to 13 to get a free week at the Department of Environmental Conservation summer camp. The winner will be chosen via lottery and and winners will be announced on March 31.

Price Chooper Sells Winning Take 5 Ticket

Price Chopper in Oneonta sold a New York Lottery Take 5 ticket worth over $36,000. According to the New York Lottery, the ticket was sold at the State Highway 7 for the evening drawing on Feb. 27. No word on if the winner has been identified.

HUD Awards Hounsing Grants In Oneonta & Norwich

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urbam Development awards grants to public housing authorities in Oneonta & Norwich to ensure residents have adequate housing that is secure. Each grant was just over $300,000. This is on top of HUD grants awarded to a pair of organizations to combat homelessness.

Chase Memorial Nursing Home Gets State Grant

The state awards an $8 million grant to Chase Memorial Nursing Home in New Berlin to build a new facility. According to the Evening Sun the grant will cover nearly a third of the construction cost. Officials say they plan a groundbreaking for spring 2024.

Norwich Police Issue Bad Heroin Warning

Norwich Police issue an alert about a bad batch of heroin in the area after responding to 3 overdoses in less than a day. The department says the heroin is laced with another substance that may be fentanyl but that is not confirmed.

Second Arrest Made In Norwich Officer Assault

A second arrest is made in the assault of a Norwich Police officer. According to the Chenango County Sheriff’s office this individual was a passenger in the car that hit the officer and was wanted on several warrants. The suspect was arrested in Sherburne.
