Town Of Otsego Looking At Tax Evemption For Volunteers

Town of Otsego lawmakers are looking at granting a 10% real estate tax exemption to active volunteer firemen and ambulance workers. According to All Otsego a public hearing will be held on Wednesday after which the Town Council may conduct a vote to implement the exemption.

DCP Assisted Neard 20k Consumers Last Year

The New York Department of State’s Division of Consumer Protection assisted just under 20,000 residents with a variety of consumer protection matters in 2022, resulting in nearly $2.4 million being returned to consumers. The top fraud categories are orders, refunds and service providers.

Yoko Ono Now A Franklin Resident

The town of Franklin now has a celebrity resident. According to published reports Yoko Ono, the wife of former Beatle John Lennon is leaving her New York City apartment for the property the couple bought in the 1970s with the intention of raising cattle.

Hussein Trian To Start May 1

The trial for the limo company owner whose vehicle crashed in Schoharie killing 20 people is scheduled for May 1. Last year a judge rejected a plea deal for Naumann Hussein but his attorney filed a motion to get the agreement reinstated. A decision is pending.

Greene CSD Audited By DiNapoli’s OIffice

State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli’s Office finds the Greene Central School District didn’t properly calculate employee leave and separation payments between July 1, 2018 and Nov. 30, 2021. District officials say they are developing a corrective action plan.

Oberacker & Maher Back School Meal Program

State Senator Peter Oberacker and Assemblyman Brian Maher are backing plans to create a permanent healthy school meals program in New York. The proposed program would provide breakfast and lunch to all children in public school districts, from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade. A federal meals program recently expired.

Cooperstown and Sharon Springs Get NY Forward Grants

The villages of Cooperstown and Sharon Springs receive awards from the NY Forward program. Cooperstown will receive $4.5 million, and Sharon Springs was awarded $2.25 million from the program supporting a more equitable downtown recovery for New York’s smaller and rural communities.

Cooperstown ZBA Holding Public Hearing

The Cooperstown Zoning Board of Appeals is holding a public hearing at 5 p.m. on March 7 on a request to allow short-term rentals at a Lake Street property. All Otsego reports the application seeks to permit the four upstairs bedrooms to be used for short-term rentals for less than 30 days.
