NY Leads Country In Residential Fire Deaths

There’s been 45 residential fire deaths in New York so far this year and officials say that’s the most in the country. In 2017, 2018, and 2019, New York was number one in the nation in fire deaths. Last year 144 New Yorkers died in residential fires.

Margaretville Woman Charged In Domestic Dispute

A woman from Margaretville is charged from a Delaware County Sheriff’s Office domestic dispute investigation that found she threatened the victim both in person and via telephone. The court also granted an order of protection on behal;f of the victim.

OCSO PBS Accepting Scholarship Applications

The Otsego County Sheriff Police Benevolent Association is accepting applications for its 2023 Scholarship Awards. Applicants need to be a county resident and application deadline is May 12. Get details at the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.

Unemployment Up In NY And Locally

January unemployment in Otsego County increased to 5.1% from the December rate of 3.2% Chenango County’s rate is up to 4.3% from 3% and in Delaware County it’s 5.1% from 3.3%. The state unemployment is 4.4% which is a tenth of a point higher than in December.

-SUNY Oneonta Unveils New Seal

SUNY Oneonta unveiled its new unversity seal. Officials say there was overwhelmingly positive feedback about the draft re-design. The seal changes today and updating the seal on documents and physical locations as needed is underway.

Tickets Available For BHOF Classic

The Baseball Hall of Fame announced tickets are now available for the 13th Annual Hall of Fame Classic on Saturday, May 27 at Doubleday Field. Hall of Famers Jim Kaat, Rollie Fingers, Ferguson Jenkins, and Jack Morris will play with other Hall of Famers participating as managers and coaches.

Chakar Resigns As Andes CSD Superintendent

The Andes Central School District is looking for a new superintendent after Robert Chakar Jr. tendered his resignation. The school board issued a statement saying they want to assure the school community of their unwavering belief in the faculty and staff’s ability to educate and care for students and families.

Seniors Asked To Take State Survey

The State Office for the Aging is asking residents 60 and older to take the Community Assessment Survey for Older Adults. It’s in partnership with the Association on Aging in New York and the research firm Polco. It is the first survey of its kind to be conducted statewide.

DCSO Celebrated Creation Of K-9 Corps

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office celebrated the creation of the US Army K-9 Corps, which was formed in 1942. On Mondat the department paid tribute to and honored the service and sacrifice of all service dogs who have previously served in the military and in the many law enforcement agencies nationwide.

Delhi Man Arfested From Indictment

A Delhi registered sex offender is jailed from a 3 count Delaware County indictment. Prosecutors say the man failed to notify authorities he changed his address and failed to reregister as a sex offender. He was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon in connection with an incident last October.
