Voting is open for the Oneonta Inclusive Business Award. It is a joint initiative of SUNY Oneonta and Hartwick College aimed at fostering partnerships between area businesses, organizations, and the two institutions. Voting is open until April 14.
A raccoon tested positive for rabies in the town of Delhi. One dog was bitten and it wasn’t up to date on vaccines so it is in a 6-month quarantine per state regulations. There were no other exposures.
A memorial service was held last Saturday for former Unadilla Fire Chief Carl French, who died March 21 at the age of 81. French also was Otsego County Deputy Fire Coordinator for 36 years. He is buried at Evergreen Hill Cemetary.
Today is the deadline for state lawmakers to pass a budget and state comptroller Thomas DiNaspoli warns 57.000 state workers may not get paid without a spending plan in place. DiNapoli says a budget needs to be passed by Wednesday in order to meet payroll.
Wayward Lane Brewing in Schoharie wins the Brewery of the Year award in the annual New York Craft Beer Competition. This year’s event had 1,350 beer entries from 189 breweries across 29 different categories. 90 medals were awarded.
A judge issued a temporary restraining order preventing Templeton Foundation from any further on-site work at the foundation’s property on Averill Road in the Village of Cooperstown. All Otsego reports a show cause hearing takes place this coming Thursday.
The City of Oneonta parking garage’s middle level is undergoing repairs today through Wednesday to replace some of the metal panels on the ceiling. A few parking spaces will need to be closed during this time period.
A heads up if you need to renew or want to get a pistol permit in Otsego County. The Sheriff’s Office’s pistol permit office is closing from April 17 through the 21 for equipment upgrades and training.
The New York Farm Bureau announced its members donated nearly 6.4 million pounds of food to regional food banks last year through the Harvest for All program. That was the second highest donation total in the country for 2022, behind Florida.
New York allocates $3.2 million to help care providers connect those with a drug addiction to rehabilitation services and other forms of support. The initiative will provide 11 grants of $200,000 apiece for eligible providers. Money comes from the Opioid Settlement Fund.
