Woman Charged In Colchester Domestic Disturbance

A woman is facing charges from a domestic disturbance in the town of Colchester. Police say an investigation determined the woman made unwanted physical contact with another person. She is free on her own recognizance pending a date in town of Colchester Court.

OPT Makes SUNY Oneonta Bus Stop Change

Oneonta Public Transit is making a temporary route and stop change effective today on SUNY Oneonta’s campus. The stop normally located at Bacon Hall will be temporarily moved to West Dorm Dr at the South Dorm Dr intersection.

Afton CSD Didn’t Manage Fund Balance

An audit from State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli’s office finds the Afton Central School District didn’t properly manage its fund balance. The audit from between 2019 and 2022 determined the district levied more taxes than needed. The school board is taking action to reduce the fund balance.

20 Otsego County Children Attending Camp

20 Otsego County children are attending the New York State Sheriffs’ Association Institute’s 2023 Summer Camp this week in Yates County.The Sheriffs’ Summer Camp is designed to provide a solid recreational program combined with the development of a sense of good citizenship.

Oneonta Pool Opening Could Be Delayed

The City of Oneonta Recreation Office announced that there could be a delay in opening day at the pool. It was to open June 28 but officials say that may be pushed back due to equipment issues. The department will issue updates on a new opening date once the issues are resolved.

Neahwa Park Main Street Closed

The City of Oneonta is closing the Neahwa Park Main Street entrance and exit until further notice, except for access to Carbon Street for water mains replacement. Officials ask drivers use the Martket Street entrance and exit. Contact the Department of Public Service with project questions.

Warehouse Worker Protection Act Now Law

New York’s Warehouse Worker Protection Act is now law. It requires distribution center employers to disclose work speed data to current and former employees. Workers will also be protected from disciplinary action and firing for not meeting undisclosed quotas or performance standards.

Fairchild Mansion Tour Is Tomorrow

The Greater Oneonta Historical Society is conducting a tour of the Fairchild Mansion (now the Masonic Lodge at 322 Main Street) tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. Bruce Van Buren leads the tour through the historic home of George Fairchild, a U.S. Congressman and the first chairman of the Board of IBM.
