‘High Visibility Campaign’ over 4th of July Weekend

Police agencies across the state are participating in the Stop-DWI “High Visibility Campaign” over the Independence Day holiday weekend. Officers will be looking for intoxicated driver along qith those driving aggressively and violating the state’s ban on handheld cell phone use while behind the wheel.

Cooperstown Changes STR Ordinance

The Village of Cooperstown Board of Trustees unanimously a;proves a zoning law change regarding short-term rentals such as AirBNB. According to All Otsego the change standardized the definition of what is a short-term rental. The change was approved on Monday following a public hearing.

Air Quality Alert Ramains In Effect

An Air Quality Alert remains in effect until midnight due to smoke from wildfires in Canada. The air quality is at unhealthy levels and those with cardiovascular or respiratory problems should stay indoors. Officials say everyone should limit physical activities until the air quality improves.

NYSP Raises Maximum Applicant Age

State Police announced the maximum age to apply to become a New York State Trooper is raised from 29 to 34. Candidates can learn about becoming a New York State Trooper and sign up to take the exam at joinstatepolice.ny.gov.

NYSP Conducting Child Seat Check July 8

State Police are holding child safety seat check on July 8, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Glimmerglass State Park. Appointments are not necessary but are preferred. Contact State Police Troop C for more information.

Harpersfield Bridge Closing July 10 For Repairs

The Delaware County Department of Public Works announced the temporary closure of Bridge 73, on Harper Road in the Town of Harpersfield beginning on Monday, July 10. Crews will be replacing the bridge deck with work to be done by August 31. Officials say to allow extra time for detours.

SUNY Cobleskill To Off Ag Communication Degree Program

SUNY Cobleskill announced a new Bachelor’s degree program in agriculture communication. Officials say it is the first and only bachelor’s program of its kind in the Northeast U.S. and will begin accepting students this fall. Go to cobleskill.edu for more information.

Poll Finds Most Don’t Want Migrants Housed At SUNY

A poll from Siena Research finds a majority of respondents dont’ want undocumented immigrants housed on SUNY campuses. State officials proposed doing just that in response to the number of asylum seekers arriving in New York City. Migrants were also bused to upsrate hotels paid for by the city.
