Oneonta YMCA Holding VIP Reception

The Oneonta YMCA is holding a VIP reception at the Foothills Performing Arts Center on Feb. 4. at 3:00 p.m. Children ages 3-10 and their chosen ‘VIP’ can take part in dancing, crafts, food, beverages and a photo booth. Tickets are $55 for adults and $20 per child.

2 Candidates Running For OC Clerk

Now that Oneonta City Clerk Kathy Sinnott Gardner announced plans to leave at the end of her current term 2 candidates have declared their candidacy. Depute Clerk Jennifer Basile and Cooperstown village trustee, MacGuire Benton, have both announced they will be running for the election to be held in November.

Preferred Foundation Accepting Scholarship Applications

The Preferred Foundation is accepting scholarship applications from high school seniors in Chenango, Delaware, and Otsego Counties.The scholarship may be used to pay tuition, college room and board, and other college fees. 4 Scholarships will be awartded this year. Application deadline is February 28.

Schenevus SD Voters To Vote Again On Merger

Voters in the Schenevus school district get another chance to decide on merging with the Worcester school district. In December 2021 Schenevus voters rejected a proposed merger while Worcester voters approved it. The revote is Feb. 15 and polls will be open from noon to 8 p.m.

DelCo Man Sentenced In Ponzi Scheme Plea Deal

A man from Delaware County will be in jail ftom 4 to 8 years on his plea deal in a nearly decade-long Ponzi scheme. AG Leticia James’ office says Carl Carro pleaded guilty last October to defrauding investors of more than $1 million. An accomplice from Westchester County was sentenced to 5 years’ probation.

Chenango County Historical Society Receives Grant

The Chenango County Historical Society & Museum received a 2022 Technical Assistance Grant from the Preservation League of New York State. The $4,000 grant will fund a Building Condition Assessment of the museum’s property at 77 Silver Street. The Society is working with LaBella Associates to conduct a Building Condition Assessment.

Bassett Expands K-9 Team

Bassett Healthcare Network announced it is expanding its K-9 security program. This past fall the team welcomed Coal, a bicolor German Shepherd, and his partner, Ryan Salisbury. Bassett’s growing K-9 Security team is possible due to the generous support of Jane Forbes Clark of Cooperstown.

DEC Offters Meet With Otsego County Sheriff Devlin

Department of Environmental Conservation officer Lt. Breigle, Ranger Ellis, and recent Forest Ranger Academy graduates Rangers Cooley and Laymon met with Otsego County Sheriff Devlin last month. In their work as police officers, wilderness first responders, and wildland firefighters, Rangers in the region maintain a close working relationship with the Sheriff’s Office.

West Kortright Center Receives NEA Grant

The West Kortright Centre announces it has been approved by the National Endowment for the Arts to receive a Challenge America award of $10,000. This grant will support the project Waking Song which will create a sonic and visual transformation of a section of the Catskill Scenic trail.

Gardner Retiring As Otsego County Clerk

Otsego County Clerk Kathy Sinnott Gardner is retiring when her term ends at the end of the year. Gardner has worked for the county for nearly 30 years with two-thirds as county clerk. According to a press release Gardner will take this move to pursue new career opportunities.
